How do I tell what year this intake is? :shruggy:
I know that is from a 383. :yesnod:
What year intakes are best & what is the difference with the single or dual plane intakes.
I am green in this subject. :pity: :scratchchin:
Thans for the help.

Can't be from a 383 because they never used spread bore carbs.

The casting number 3830949 is for a '75-'78 440 4bbl. The casting date appears to be 9-30-77.
Pardon me but my karma just ran over your dogma.

Musicman

That's correct... 3830949 is from a 75-76 400 4bbl, and not a 383.

As far as the issue of Single Plane verses Dual Plane....
Dual plane units work best for the typical Street Runner, but Single plane units are almost a standard for the all out Drag racer.

TQs were spreadbore carbs standart equipment on BB 4 bbls engines since 72. So comes from 400 because no 383s since 72.

Beside that, the plate located on dirver side is a block plate to emision controls, not available on earliers. Same about the choke hosing.

Are we sure NO Thermoquad came on a 383 in '71? Granted, that intake's not a 383..

as far I know... TQs were standart on Mopar SB engines on 340s 70/71, but no on BB/RB. I can be wrong thought.

I agree with Nacho, I think all the 71 383's had Holley's.  Then again, there are few absolutes with Mopars.

I might be wrong but I think the thermoquad first showed up in 1971 on 340 small blocks and in 1973 on 440's I not sure about 360's and 400's though, I still have the 440 engine out of my 72 New Yorker and it still had the factory Holley four barrell carb and square bore intake and my 74 Dodge D100 pick-up came factory with a 440 and it had a thermoquad set-up that has been changed to a 3310 Holley and a factory 70 square bore intake.
