Charged

I began getting early calls on my cell-phone about two weeks ago from a number on caller ID as 1-888-888-8888. I work 3rd shift so by the time I woke up to answer these calls...they had already hung up. Well finally I catch one of them around 3pm. A thick Indian accent from the company "Unified Services" starts about how Ive won some kinda vacation and a $1000 shopping spree. Guy says he got my info from some business I use to deal with. I ask who it was and he changed the subject.  Well, "assuming" their not allowed to tell, I dont sweat it and move along.

He tells me I need to give him $1.95 S&H for an info packet to send to my address. I tell him thats to expensive and I cant afford $1.95. In amazment he asks me "Are you a begger?" Shocked by what he just asked me, I say I cant afford it. Now I dont want to hang up, I wanna see how interesting this guys about to get. Well, after more seduction for his offer I repeat my financial status and he hangs the phone up on me after saying "Then hang up the phone you begger!".

Later I get them calling me again!..and again!...and again! Sometimes as late as 11:30 pm. Already suspicious about the whole thing I get on the internet and try searching this company out. I found several sites as listed below at the end of this letter.

On some of these sites, it was word for word detail about EXACTLY the same offers, offensive remarks/personalities, price of S&H...I mean almost every thing was to the tee about what I just went threw. Coincidence...obviously NOT! Page after page after page of countless people ALL telling about how they just got scammed from a company that is presumably in India decieving people into giving them money earned threw scamming.

Sounds like a scam to me. That's one of the main reasons why I don't have a telephone!!!

But imagine them calling tens of thousands of people every day, you've got to catch some suckers, and at $2 a pop that could add up to some real money. Let alone what kind of scam they try to hook you on with the 'informational packet.'

Keep in mind, a lot of the drawings and raffles and a million other things are all scams nowadays, designed to get your phone number, your address, your SS #, your email, whatever -- and then use those to dupe you or to sell to other companies looking to dupe you.

The big one around here -- though it's not asking for money -- is the Presidential Primary candidates calling to leave messages on your answering machine. If you answer, the recording will say, 'oops our mistake, wrong number,' apologize and then try to call back later to get your machine when your not home.

The benefit of living in a swing state, I guess -- and yes, politicians are exempt from the do not call registry.

The telemarketers call at work and my boss has authorized me to treat them with utter contempt and disgust. "Oh sure, I'd love to refinance my mortgage over the phone!!! How'd you know?"

Call the BBB with the number and the next time they call cuss them out good.

They don't want the $1.95 from you, they want your account number to get much more.
