Yesterday I needed help picking up a 3rd gen R/T louvered bulge hood. :2thumbs:, I still can't believe that I found one. :D
I live in Mentor, Ohio. The hood was in Cincinnati,Ohio. 4 hrs from me.
Troy came through and helped me out. He went far beyond, what was supposed to be "It will only take 20 minutes of you Sunday for helping me Troy", into 4 hours  of packing up and sorting  through a ton of 3rd gen parts. :icon_smile_big: :yesnod:
It was really awesome to make a new friend that is into Mopars and that would help another Moper person out. Man, that is what this hobby is about. :2thumbs: :yesnod:
Thanks for the help Troy & thanks for being the web-master of the best Mopar site out there.

I am going to post some 3rd gen parts tonight and tomorrow at  fair prices. I can deliver to the Nationals or ship, but shipping is so expensive theses days on big parts.
The hood will no way ever be for sale though. :yesnod:

I almost hate to ask this but why are these hoods so hard to find? Is it a clone thing?

Ok but hoods are not one of the items generally removed from cars and lost like radios, seat belts, etc. :shruggy:

Ok, I'll try to explain it better... How much 71 R/Ts have you seen being parted out to get these hoods ? In fact...How much R/Ts assemblied againts regulars ?

Those numbers are the same than 2nd gens R/Ts so is a not brain calculation... plus lots of threads about on board ;)

So, people want to clone them? There's no fewer '71 R/T Charger hoods than there are '71 R/T Chargers is there?

Nacho-RT74

not just for clone purpuose, just to add on any 3rd gen

69charger2002

i think the hype and demand is because the 71 charger R/T production was like 3700 or so.. whatever.. well even THEN you had the louvered hood, a ramcharger hood etc as options. there just aren't that many hoods in that style ever produced.. whereas just 69 for instance.. 20,000 R/T's and over 85000 chargers in total.  the difference is ALL 69 chargers have the exact same design. there were no options. and just look what good used 69 hoods go for.. its easy to see why a low production hood is so valuable
i live in CHARGERLAND.. visitors welcome. 166 total, 7 still around

Unlike the 2nd gens with only one style hood :smilielol: .
Us 3rd gen guys and gals got choices. Well, if we got the money we got the choices ::)

bull

Ok, that makes sense. People want more R/T hoods than there are R/T cars to put them on. That's all you had to say.

Nacho-RT74

hehehe, well my first comment it was because this has been on topic since years ago, so is not a secret and this happens not just with louvered or cut outs hoods, is also about regular rallyes bulged hoods

Did anybody ever hear of a master fabricator named Jesse James?  I bet he can make a bulge hood out of beer cans and toilet paper and it won't cost him 5 grand

BTW, his speciality is street bikes, not cars. He has maybe done a car or 2 but he is a bike man.
