66 Mustang Convertible

I am a diehard Mopar fan and always will be, but at the last Pigeon Forge, TN Fall Rod Run, my wife fell in love with a 66 Ford Mustang Convertible with the pony interior, 289 engine with auto trans.

I'm working hard to get her this car, that way she'll have something to drive to the summer car shows to be with me, and I can teach her more about cars and try to spark the passion alive in her so she'll better understand my insanity for my 69' R/T SE.

Can anybody guess the value of a fully restored mustang as described above?   It appears in excellent condition, but I haven't gone over it from head to toe yet (due to see it again on Friday).

Any help will be GREATLY appreciated.   I'll tell you what he's asking AFTER I get 2 replies, sounds like a bargin!!!

P.S. HEY, THIS IS MY 69th POST!!!!!

id guess around 15k. vert stangs sell reaaaaly good.

I went to the NADA web site and looked up this car.  Fair condition was listed as $12K, Good condition was listed at $31K, and Excellent fully restored listed at > $40K.  I'm looking to confirm or disprove this data.

I would say at least 15, if it is a GT then 25-30 easy.

Why would you want anything else?  Just give me a Charger and I'll be happy.

Charger_Fan

Looks like it's got GT fender emblems & lower stripes. If it's a true GT, with a hipo 289 (matching #'s of course) & the resto of the car is as clean as what I can see, I would say it's firmly in the $30K range.
However, I haven't really been watching the 'Stang market for quite some time, so I could be off.

Sure looks like a sweet little toy, though!

The Aquamax...yes, this bike spent 2 nights underwater one weekend. (Not my doing), but it gained the name, and has since become pseudo-famous. :)

I thought 'stangs had been a little soft lately?  Fords in general actually.

My friend bought a 66 hard top converted to a convert with original convert parts for $10,000 last year.  its in driver condition.  So i'd say this yellow car is easily $15~20,000.

Owner tells me it has GT appearance (lights/stripes) but is NOT an actual GT.  As for the 289, won't know till I see it if it is hi-po or lo-po.  The owner doesn't have a clue (he didn't do the resto, but bought it recently and needs to sell for the money).

He is asking $25,900, but confessed to me he would take $25K.  Once I get to spend more time looking over the car... if it looks as good as I remember, drives well and straight, no bondo found, and tranny fluid/oil smells, looks OK, was thinking of offering $23K.  Is that too much?

I really appreciate all the quick responses by the way.  This was one of the cleanest cars I've seen in a LONG time, and even if I pay a couple thousand too much for it, I think it'd be worth it, and hope to recoup the money in the long run as the value slowly trickles up.  Maybe I should put a "Hemi" decal on the front edge of the door when/if I decide to sell it... I'm sure there's a sucker out there somewhere who's that ignorant!

Any more suggestions???  Should I go for it or not?!

Well, with it not being an original GT car, that would surely make the value go down a little...just as when someone makes a standard Charger an R/T. I would have to assume it's not a hipo engine either, although it's easy enough to hop them up a bit.
So...that makes it a really clean convertible, to have fun with. Like I said earlier, I haven't been watching the market much, but I wouldn't think that $23K would be unreasonable for a nice clean GT clone.

Does it have the exhaust tips going through the rear valence?

I couldn't tell you what Mustangs are worth, but that yellow one looks really nice. I see prices all over the place & don't know what's high or not. There's 2 in the local paper this week, one for $15,000 & one for $5500. Both claim the cars look "great" but that could be very vague.   ::)   My wife always wanted a '66 Mustang notchback, but not a fastback or a ragtop, & it had to be stick. She got bored with them over the years, & now said she'd love an old pick up truck like the GMC or Chevy with the small, curved windows at the rear, corners of the cab. Her next choice is an old Power Wagon, military style. That would be a wiser selection.   :D   Maybe I'll trade something for one.

I think the engine compartment is wrong. I am not a Mustang guy but painted one last year and the owner had me do the engine compartment color of the car.

Mustang engine compartments are black. If she love the car, go aheand and make a reasonable offer. It is the end of the season and $23k seems like a more than reasonable offer (Maybe I'm a little out of touch).
Here is a pic of my '65 I bought this summer.

That looks like a good little driver, how much did you give for that one?

Just 6T9 CHGR

My father has one as well.  It's a '66 4 speed with a 351 (originally a 289)
He put the '65 pony interior in it as well.

Front springs were a PITA but with a Mustang of that vintage they sell EVERYTHING new for it......you could probably build one right out of a catalog....

heres a few pics

It looks better than it is! (They always do!) You wouldn't believe me if I told you. It is a an original 289 c.i. auto with p.s. and p.b. It runs and drives, but the doors don't line up. It needs a complete rotisserie, but it will have to wait until my Daytona clone is finished. It was purchased well under $4k. I feel lucky to have it. My wife loves it!
Here is another view.

Yep. every part for a Rustang is in a catalog.  I just did a front suspension rebuild with my buddies 66 and the catalog had every part in it.!!

My wife decided to go for the car.  Ended up settling on $23K.  Due to have it delivered tomorrow afternoon.

I want a 69 Mach-1 in the worst way...a nice little resto-modded example like this one would do nicely. :drool5:

Good luck with your new toy! :icon_smile_big:

I like that radio in the dashboard....it looks cool.  I have a 97 Mustang Cobra Convertible, but I have always liked the classic mustang convertibles as well.

ChargerSG

A cab like that would go for 15-20k and in Sweden like 30k, but my girl bought a sunburnt Mustang in great condition for $2000 in New Mexico not a cab or Fastback but anyway...
Looking for 383 Magnum #0B196875 and 0B115166
