new to post, thanks for any help I can get!!!  I have a 69 charger and I'm having trouble with car stalling when I pull head lights on or mash brake lights.  Engine is a 383 with mild cam, MSD ignition.  The alternator that is on the car is a 2 wire factory style alternator.  I have the silver after-market voltage regulator.  My voltage at idle is about 3/4 of the way up on the amp gauge, when pull in gear mash brakes with headlights on, voltage drops to discharge just under half then engine stalls.  Had alternator tested and was good, new voltage regulator.  RPM's on car at idle are about 900.  Drives down the road great, but when come to rolling stop mash brakes amp gauge goes from charge to discharge as coming back down to idle and engine finally stalls out.    Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!!!!!!!!

Check ground wires on brakes and headlights for corrosion. Also check headlight connectors and taillight sockets for corrosion.

I worked on it last night, found that the msd dist wants 12 volts to run,as it was it only had 8.5 at a idle when i turn the lights on it would take away from the coil, also with all that going on mash the brakes as the rear tail lights come on it would stall,to fix i bypassed the ballast on the fire wall, now coil is getting 12 volts and runs very well, thanks for your help this is a great place to get info on my car,the only other problem i have is how to bypass the kick down with out changing the valve body.  :icon_smile_big:

Why do you want to "bypass' the transmission throttle linkage?  :scratchchin:

Driving the car without the linkage is a good way to damage the transmission.  :Twocents:

Need to know if their is away to bypass the kickdown linkage,i know it will not work right with out it,thanks for you input ,don't want to tear any thing up,is there some one who can sell me the right set up? thanks for any help.

The only way to bypass it is to install a manual reverse valve body.  Driving a stock valve body without it is a fast shortcut to tranny meltdown.

Thanks, off  to the junk yard again to find the right linkage, can't have the trans go bad just got it. ;) :2thumbs:

Good decision.  What a lot of people don't realize is that "kickdown" is just a nickname that linkage has been given over the years and kickdown is only one (and the lesser important) of the functions it provides.  It is called a throttle pressure rod by Chrysler and essentially what it does is to increase line pressure to the various parts of your transmission under load.  Running without it hooked up means that when you are working the trans hard (such as higher speeds, or quick shifts or applying reverse) everything slips.  That's a shortened version but it makes the point.

Thanks so much,I will not drive it tell there is one installed ,y'all wouldn't know where to buy one or what kind of cars, trucks may have one that will work,so i don't have to go through so many to find one?
