Selling my '69 Charger...never thought I would have to....

Well, I've already had to borrow $$ to keep things going and the Charger has to go to pay the debt. My new wife isn't the reason either...life just gets difficult at times and temporary things have to go in order to keep food on the table and gas in the tank. Her and I both wish there were another way but there just isn't. I was waiting to be called on a job from PG&E that paid really well. I tested highest out of all the applicants and would have had my foot in the door of the engineering department there, but one of the paper pushers in charge lost my information and logged me into the system a week and a half late. Needless to say, by the time I actually made it into the system the job that was essentially mine (as explained to me by 3 supervisors and the union rep) was gone. I keep telling myself it wasn't meant to be and God has another plan, but the hole we're in keeps getting deeper. That job would have prevented MANY of the difficulties we are now facing. I'm still looking but my skill set is limited and I just can't afford the cash outlay or time needed to re-educate myself. I know many of you will try to talk me out of selling it, but I have a wife and 2 kids to think of first. Thanks for listening guys....

You gotta have a life first. I hate having to prioritize all these things (I want it all!) but that's what it takes sometimes. I hope it all works out for you.

Sarcasm detector, that's a real good invention.

Life has a funny way of putting things in perspective. Here's hoping you do real well selling the car. :2thumbs:

That sucks Bill,  :brickwall:

got an add for the car for us to see?

I've been there too. In fact, if someone would have given me what I thought mine was worth in the late 90's, I probably wouldn't currently own a Charger. Luckily, nobody did & I found another way to scrape by.
When you're a parent though, a Charger is certainly not on the top of the priority list when it comes down to the nitty-gritty. I hope things work out in your favor soon.

The Aquamax...yes, this bike spent 2 nights underwater one weekend. (Not my doing), but it gained the name, and has since become pseudo-famous. :)

I wish the best for you and hope that something happens that would prevent you from having to take these steps. I have entertained the thought of selling the 68RT many times just to make things a little looser but have been fortunate enough to be able to keep it for now. Like you, I have a family and no matter what, my family comes first. It takes an incredibly strong person to think of others before themselves. I admire your sense of responsibility. Your family knows  what you have given up for them. I wish I could say the word to make it a little easier for anyone to make it through tough times like this.

agreed 100% & the fact you know what needs to be done is great. I sold my 68 a few yrs ago but was able to get back on my feet & aquire another charger so think long term after you fix the short term issues. Best of luck with everything!

to bad they couldnt give you the paper pushers job , you know the one that screwed up.  who knows, maybe the person they hired may do a shitty job, and your phone will be ringing.   best of luck to you.

Hope you are able to get a job quick. Too bad you have to sell, but like you said, family comes first. Just be glad you have a way to generate a little more income in this time of need. Good luck in the future. Hope to see you in the market for a Charger down the road after things get better. And they will get better. :yesnod:

Yea, life does get in the way sometmes - you just gotta make the best of it.  Ya'll will get back on your feet and there will always be a Charger or three out there. Best of luck.

Been there and it stinks for sure and of course I don't know your exact situation, but if you think there may be something coming around the corner soon you can try this. If you have an appraisal of the car you might be able to borrow against it if your a member of a Credit Union at a very low interest rate. It stopped me from selling a couple of times. Again, I won't even try to guess your situation but it may be an idea. I hate to see someone sell because they have to, but sadly, it happens, good luck with whatever you do.

Thanks for the input and kind words everyone. Like most of you I've just always figured that "things" don't matter much in life if you don't have people who love you around, and taking care of them and seeing that they are happy and secure means everything. As far as the Charger goes, it's a project in the works. I have around $5,000 in new parts on top of the car itself and figure I'll sell it all for around $10K or so or sell the complete car for $6,000 and the parts for whatever I can get. Bare shell, parts in bags and boxes, ready for paint, all in tact, perfect project with all the dirty work done. I'm hoping to some day again own one, but at this point it may be a few years off. Take care...

Been there, done that. Had to sell everything but my house, wife and kids in the early nineties. I know how your feeling right now, but hang in there because sometimes the oddest thing can lead to a full time job. Here's how I got my break.
I was sitting home with no work (I'm a carpenter/contractor) in 93. My buddy Jack calls and said he was supposed to build a couple sets of stairs for some construction trailers the next day, however he hadn't seen his GF in three weeks (she lived in NJ) and he had the worst case of DSB ever and wanted to know if I'd build the stairs so he could go relieve some pressure. Sure I said. The next day I showed up at the job site, told Danny (the boss) that Jack had a small medical problem :D. I built the stairs, Danny came out, looked at them and said "I have a few weeks of work if your interested". I stayed there for four years, was his job super for the last year. I left to start building houses again in 98. Injured my elbow two years ago, can't swing a hammer full time, Danny happens to call me, he's looking for a job super for commercial and high end condos and I was his first choice, guess who I'm working for again.
It's really funny how things work out. I wish you and your family the best of luck.

Sorry to hear about your misfortune, it makes me mad when a good person is hurt by someone's incompetence!  The wife and I are going throug something similar but thank God it did not get to the point that I had to sale the Charger.  God bless you and your family, hopefully you will be able to get another charger in the not too distant future.

Hang in there. Sounds like a lot of us been there done that. Have faith in the lord and hopefully everything will get better.

Yep me too, I know what that's like, I'm selling my Charger also to pay off a mountain of medical bills. Alot of things aren't covered with insurance, and that sucks. :brickwall:
"Let me explain something to you, um i am not Mr. Lebowski, you're Mr. Lebowski. I'm the dude, so that's what you call me. That or his dudeness, or duder, or you know, el duderino if you're not into the whole brevity thing."

Well at this point I'm guessing you don't care where it goes but if you want it to go to a good home, throw some pics up on here or in the For Sale section. There may be a few of us that would be interested or know someone who is. Probably some unwanted advice, but I would try to sell it in one shot and get the money you need now instead of going through the headaches of selling piece by piece. Again, good luck in whatever you do and hopefully, some day soon, things will turn around and you'll find another.

remta1

Yeah i agree try and sell it all in one piece ,it sucks that you have to sell , most of us have " been there done that " for one reason or another , its ironic because we couldnt put a price on a loving wife and family ( even though we all drive each other nuts on the odd occasion ! ) , sometimes its not the news that you get but how you deal with it , take each day as it comes ( if you wake up in the morning thats a great start to the day ) all the best and have faith ,im sure it will all work out well in the end ,  Jas
