I'm pretty sure my transmission has been overfilled for awhile due to a messed up dip stick. I was able to take out just over 2 quarts of fluid and now the fluid is at the top of the pan.

Should the transmission be filled up to the top of the pan?

The "FULL" mark on the dipstick is about 1/4" above the top of the ledge where the dipstick tube enters the case.

You're way underfilled.
Pardon me but my karma just ran over your dogma.

so basically if you removed the fill tube and filled the transmission up to the top of the hole it would be good?

All fluid level checks must be made with the fluid warmed up and the engine running with the shifter in Neutral. I wouldn't recommend running the engine with the dipstick tube removed.

I understand but I have a dipstick that the end has been cut off sometime in the past and giving me innaccurate readings, I just want to get the fluid level in the ballpark until I get another one.

Ballpark fluid levels are not usually a good idea.  :Twocents:  I'd try and get the dipstick replaced first.

I agree but until I get one, does anyone here have a 904 trans that they could measure the dipstick and tell me what length it should be?
