Why do some block the tag number. How would that benefit anyone if it wasn't?

So ome unscrupulous person, or persons can't track down the location of the car for whatever purposes they may want to (steal it, bother the owner about selling it, steal parts from it and so on)

Exactly 69DodgeCharger. It's all about respecting another persons privacy especially when they have no knowledge of me taking the picture and posting it online.

Not to start an argument but I really dont get that either.  A license plate number is public info displayed on the outside of a vehicle, so people ARE going to see it one way or another. 

So using that logic you don't mind if your plate number is posted all over the internet? Big difference between the required display for identification puposes used by the state and law enforcement and posting on the net where "anybody" including criminal elements, car fllippers and just plain idiots can track it down for whatever reason? Plus as stated above it is a matter of respect and privacy.

I dont mind a bit.  In fact, it already is posted all over the internet, by me 



I just dont see how its any different than driving down the street.  You never know who is taking pictures of your car while you drive it, or while at a show or even in the Wal-mart parking lot.

I just happened to have my camera along today when I stopped in at a body shop to take pictures of a 60's Cuda when I spied this 70. He left as soon as I pulled in so I followed him briefly and snapped off a few pictures. Single exhaust. Might have been a 318.

I believe they call this "stalking"?

Stalking? I don't think so if done once and I did not follow him to his home/destination. But I can see how some may see it that way.

Yes some people may see it but not you right? You wouldn't see it if I hadn't posted it. And neither would anyone else here who may be lurking and just waiting for an opportunity. I may be a pessimist but I am for good reason. I think now the question I have is why is it a subject for debate? I took a few pictures and posted them here knowing many people  would enjoy seeing them. Isn't that enough?

No problem triple black....What he doesn't realize is that with a phone call to my connection at the Sherrif's dispatch and his plate number I have his home address and quite a bit of other info right at my finger tips. So I guess if I was a "shady" individual I could attempt to steal the car or parts with that info. I know for a fact I am not the only individual with a contact that can access the LEIN system. Who's to say somebody wouldn't make up a fake story about an abandoned car and needing to find the owner so they can buy it and then using their contact to get the info?

When you go to a car show you would expect people to photograph your car and I guess if a person was paranoid they could cover their plates at them. But when your driving down the street to the store you wouldn't expect to be photographed without your consent and it could possibly be suspicious....Most likely just an admirer of your car but with the prices these machines are bringing and the amounts invested in them it is better to be safe than sorry. I personally wouldn't want my plate numnber posted on an internet web site, but hey that's just me. I guess we will have to agree to disagree on this one.
