The main reason I prefer small amps is I like real overdrive over effects pedal tone.

My first 'good' amp was an Ampeg V4. The cabs were so big they had built in dolly handles. That thing was rated at 100 watts, but it would smoke any JCM 800 in power, but lacked tone. Playing out at small clubs and stuff in high school, that was way too much amp. At the time it was all about power though.

The fender is a awesome find!! I have a old V4 head sitting in my closet Heavy as hell, makes my mesa seem light.

Yeah, I remember that! I used to fear the handle couldn't support the weight and was going to break. Two things I liked about the Ampeg was the reverb tank lock that allowed you to secure the springs while you transported it and the schematic diagram they placed inside the chassis so whoever serviced it could take it out for referance.
