Hey guys -

I am in the hunt for rear glass for a 1969 Daytona - Muscle City Glass's number has been disconnected so does anyone know if they are still in businesses or of another alternative source for a rear window?  :shruggy:

cheers and thanks - Mike

Mike, Here is a copy of the e-mail I received from the place I bought mine from:

Chris,

We just got a new order in.  We are in Cedar Rapids and the cost is $675.  We have warehouses and service centers all over so let me know where you are and we may be able to send to one of our stores for you to pick up.  Thanks.

This was in Jan '06. I just called the 800 # a few minutes ago and it was still good.

The price of $675 included shipping to their local warehouse. Since I live out in the sticks, I had to drive into St. Louis to pick it up.  I got it the day after I placed my order...it was here literally overnight  :2thumbs:

Well since no one else has mentioned it, which of the two companies making the repro glass is the one that is off in dimensions? Not side to side, nor top to bottom, but off on the contour of the glass. Its flat, not rounded like OEM glass. Anyone know?

Aero426

There's only one repro glass to my knowledge, and it's flatter in shape than the original due to the nature of the manufacturing process.

I thought that there was 2 people making the rear glass.

I think it's a case of one manufacturer, several venders....

I have no original glass to compare it to, but the repro glass I've got has a pretty good curve to it...

The glass contour is formed in a sand mold. Flat glass is placed in the mold and sent through a furnace. If the contour is off, it's a quality issue with the mold. No reason is shouldn't match the original contour.

Final dimensions are created by grinding the edges of the panel. Again, if the dimensions are off, it's a quality issue.

Neither of these issues is due to the "nature of the process". Somebody is feeding you a line of crap.

All I can tell you is that there is a distinct differnce in  the glass that is being made now, and the origionals. If you stand at the side of a window and look accross the rear window its easy to tell if its orgional glass or repro.

Thats about it the daytona window has a slight noticable bubble to it.The repos havent captured that feature
