For cams I'd check out:
http://www.holley.com/types/Chrysler_Voodoo_Cams.asp
and
http://englecams.com/catalog/new_catalog.php

Not sure what cam would be needed for 400hp in a 383 but Chryco or Firefighter could probably tell you.  Just make sure you match the stall with your cam if you want to take off hard...I didn't and it bogs a little on take off.

If you get a bigger cam you may want a holley street dom or edlebrock performer rpm intake.

good luck!

I'm planning on doing a similar build for my '72, but I ahve not set any power numbers to shoot for, so.... I'm sorta getting off easy.... Anyway, here's the cam that I'm looking at:
http://store.summitracing.com/partdetail.asp?part=LUN%2D60302LK&autoview=sku
I may go a little bigger, just undecided, but it's a good cam that will still pull vacuum for thigns like power brakes..... Intake, the Edelbrock Performer RPM would be a good choice. Me personaly, I hate Holley... Each one that I've had has been bad news, so..... I like the Barry Grant Line up.... But you'll hear different things from different people, this is going to be more of a personal preference.... 650 CFM, I think, should be enough, the 3310 is a 750 unit, I had one on my old 440, until it went out (the carb that is).... As for the torque converter, match it up to which even cam you decide on, but the 11" size will probably be a little more like it versus the 12", if you do go to the 11" you will probably have to change the flexplate... I did on my old '69. Rear axle gear ratio, it depends on what you're going to be doing more, more cruising then 3.23 sure grip keep the RPM's down, gonna be showing off then look into the 3.55 Sure Grip, not that big of a number difference but there is a big difference. If you've had your heads reworked, then I wouldn't worry about the valvetrain, as long as the cam is within the limits of the springs and such, then you shouldn't have a problem. Rocker arms should be replaced with ones that have thicker cross section material, several different brands available, Chryco likes to suggest one in particular, but I can't remember who it is though... :rotz: Pushrods... replace the factory ones, with a good set, doesn't have to be the most expensive set, but I wouldn't try and get the cheapest either, afterall, street car, not major all out drag car... Timing chain, I liked the Summit Racing kit that I got for the 440, it had the billet steel gears and a double roller chain, nice setup. There are other out there though, but try and use a true double roller. By the way, here's a link to the Demon website, if interested: http://www.barrygrant.com/demon/default.aspx If you want to run a vacuum secondary with electric choke, then click on the VE series, also for the street, your best bet might be the Speed Demon line up.

thanks for the replies, This is gonna be more of a cruiser  I just don't want to go overkill on anything. I think the 3310 carb will be fine but I'm wondering on the intake a eddy RPM or a dp4b or action + (hood clearance isn't a issue) Just wondering with running exhaust manufolds what my limits are

From Holley's website, this is the voodoo cam I would pick. Should be plenty streetable and pull well in the mid range.

60302      60302LK      262/268      220/226      .475"/.494"      112/108      Hyd/Hyd      1400-5800
60302 Description- Hydraulic: Mid-level performance street cam with excellent drivability. Works well with stock type exhaust Manifolds and dual plane intake with mild 4 bbl carb. This is an Awesome 4x4 and performance marine cam where "Dry" exhaust is used. Improved valve springs and roller rockers recommended.

supserdave do you think that cam would get him to the 400ish HP range?  The cam looks great for a fast cruiser, but it seems he wants more than 1hp per CI so more cam may be needed?   I'd go dual pattern for sure, like the one supserdave listed....again for 400hp I'm not sure what you'll need I've never built a 383.  Firefighter and Chryco need to chime in here.

From reading posts here and other info, it seems like without headers you want a 111-112 LSA or more on the cam because of scavaging issues, and a dual pattern cam will help exhaust through the manifolds, like the one listed by supserdave.

Regarding the Eddy rpm intake, hood clearance seems to be the reason ppl go with the street dom, but looks like the eddy rpm will work for you.  I'll be getting a street dom myself just because of clearance.  I have a stock hood, no scoop or hump.

750cfm BG is working well on my 440, and I've read on this forum that you don't want more than 750 on a cruisin 383.

My 3:55's run about 3000rpm at 70mph...727 trans.  Same tire size as yours.

I went ahead and contacted Holley thereselves about the VooDoo line up. Gave them a few spec's, and said what I'd like to try and get out of it, no lower than 400 horse power, because, I too will be doing a 383 build, so.... Let's see what they say.

mopar_madman

Yeah I'm curious also, please post what they say, thanks

Sorry I have not been around for a couple of days, been a little bit "under the weather" and wasn't too happy... Finaly coming around, checked my e-mail, heard back from Edelbrock about my intake, but nothing from the Holley corp...... :shruggy: So, no news as of yet, I wonder what's taking so long :ahum:

mopar_madman

last time I emailed them it took about a week to reply, I imagine they get alot of tech mail to sort through

It's been around a week now, still nothing, I don't know :shruggy:. Anyway, hopefully in a couple of days I'll hear something ::).
I sent a tech question about a cam, for a friend of mine for non-mopar related item, I got a confirmation e-mail right away, a few days later I heard back from them saying to call them :D, figures, one little quesiton about a cam that I don't see listed for that motor (LT1), and I've all of a sudden have no make a long distance phone call. Needless to say, I'm not gonna make a long distance phone call for him, when he can call and ask himself. I'll take my own middle man self out of that situation :2thumbs:. :coolgleamA:
