Canadian wrestler Benoit, family found dead
Updated Mon. Jun. 25 2007 8:05 PM ET

Associated Press

STAMFORD, Conn. -- Canadian pro wrestler Chris Benoit has been found dead at his suburban Atlanta home along with his wife Nancy and son, World Wrestling Entertainment said Monday.

"There are no further details at this time, other than the Benoit family residence is currently being investigated by local authorities,'' the WWE statement said on its website.

WWE said information about the deaths came from "authorities'' in Fayetteville County, Ga. A spokesman for the Peachtree City Police Department said he had no information on the report, telling a reporter to contact his superior on Tuesday.

WWE spokeswoman Cheryl Kong in Toronto said Monday night's "Raw'' TV program would serve as a tribute to Benoit and his family.

Benoit, 40, was born in Montreal and lived in Edmonton. He was a former world heavyweight champion, Intercontinental champion and held several tag-team titles over his career.

"WWE extends its sincerest thoughts and prayers to the Benoit family's relatives and loved ones in this time of tragedy,'' the website statement said.

Benoit was scheduled to wrestle at the Vengeance pay-per-view Sunday night in Houston, but was replaced at the last minute because of what announcer Jim Ross called "personal reasons.''

Please tell me it was not anothe murder/suicide.  I cannot take much more of these guys deciding it's easier to kill women and kids rather than divorcing them.

One of the reports said that Benoit called WWE and said he couldn't be at Vengeance because his family was sick and they were spitting up blood.

They also have said that he was in a new house.

Could it possibly have been carbon monoxide poisoning?

Something is weird that's for sure.

either way, it's a tragedy.  I feel bad for their families

[rant] no offense, but whenever a celebrity dies... why do we feel like we have to further immortalize them with these tributes?  I am not one to disgrace or disrespect the dead, but at the same time, what have these people done to affect your life in a positive manner so as to get you to lay a tribute to them?

Then again, 9 firefighters from South Carolina died fighting a blaze and not one thread that I could see.  I can see how the tragic murder/suicide of a entertainer is way more important than the deaths of those that put their lives on the line everyday.

Sorry, I just do not hold the same sentiment to a man or his wife (not sure which one yet) who had murdered one another and their child.  May the innocents find peace in heaven and the murderer burn in hell.  I am not here to give forgiveness or judge, He can only do that.[/rant]

oh... and if you wanna know about the firefighters:

I have to agree with RD. A pro wrestler? I wish more people would look up to life's real heroes.

I have been a wrestling fan for many years. But if it turns out to be a murder/suicide he can rot in hell for all i care.

So what if someone wants to "immortalize" the death of someone you don't care about?  It's not uncommon at all for people to feel a connection to people in the entertainment & sports worlds.  They often serve as role models and people look up to them, for better or worse.

If you feel so strongly about the killed firemen, why didn't you start a thread about them before?  No time?  Not how you deal with things?  Me either.  That's why I didn't start a thread about the dozens of soldiers killed throughout this month, or the thousands killed over the last few years.  Threads aren't how I deal with things.  Doesn't mean I don't respect the sacrifice.  Same reason I didn't start a thread when my little cousin died a few weeks ago.  It's not how I deal with things.  But I'd like to hope that if I did, you wouldn't have pissed all over the sentiment because he didn't matter to you.

And keep in mind I haven't read the details of this case, and I don't know who killed who, (if anyone) but my knowledge says puking up blood does not sound like CO poisoning.  It doesn't sound good, but if someone's upset over the loss of a public figure, let them be.  I would think a counselor of all people would understand that.

Nothing wrong with it but it's a lot like hearing people cry about Paris Hilton being put in jail or Anna Nicole dying.

Man what a puke.  Makes me sick when I hear this sort of thing.  Especially killing an inocent child.  There is no reason.

GRIM DETAILS OF THE BENOIT FAMILY TRAGEDY
by Dave Scherer @ 12:27:00 PM on 6/26/2007

Grim details of the murder-suicide are coming to light.  We have learned that authorities believe that Chris Benoit strangled his wife Nancy on Saturday, then killed his son Daniel on Sunday either by strangling him or smothering him in his bed.  On Monday, he then hung himself, reportedly in the weight room of his Georgia home.  More details are expected to be released by officials later today.

How the !$@%#% does someone get to the point that they kill their own flesh and blood? How does that happen? How does someone snap that completely?

Then the coward takes his own life after doing something like THAT!   :icon_smile_dissapprove: It is horrible and unforgivable.

oh i know that people have a connection to celebrities in some way, shape, or form, but it does not mean I agree with it.  I may have struck harshly with my statement, but you can only live in lala land for so long with this "one-way" connection with celebrities.

people can do what they want in regards to these tributes, but I believe them to be an overwhelming and misguided empowerment of celebrities and nothing but a fanciful case of misguided idolatry.  To provide worship to a group of humans for nothing more than their ability to portray a character in the name of entertainment is lunacy and fanaticism at its greatest. just my  :Twocents:

I hear a lot of people say that they love this actor or singer or band or athlete, but have no idea what that person is like.  Man if you did that with anyone in your neighborhood (some being worse than others) you would find yourself as a doormat.  In some cases, that is what happens with those who idolize these celebrities, they become doormats.

On that note, I agree with RE, you can put up these threads to place forever in the internet search engines some type of documentation showing that a celebrity has died, that is your right (well at least until Troy kills it :D ).  It does not mean that I agree with your reasons as I find them pointless, assinine, and somewhat pitiful.  Especially, when the guy you are trying to enamor is a murderer.

And to answer his question:
QuoteIf you feel so strongly about the killed firemen, why didn't you start a thread about them before?  No time?  Not how you deal with things?  Me either.

Me posting a thread about them here is not necessary.  Their actions are what tells their story far better than a bunch of binary code I could implement.
