4 speed oil seal question.

I'm down to the final seal on my tranny re-seal. It's been done for a while, but it wont be in the car for some time. I've been staring at the rear tailshaft oil seal that seats over the drive shaft. The rubber portion of the seal has a single hole in the seal.

Does it make a difference where the hole is located when installed? No reference to it in any of the manuals I have. I'm assuming it's some sort of weep hole and I'm guessing that it might need to point down toward the ground.
