First, I'd like to introduce myself as new to this board...i've browsed for some time but never posted. I've owned a 1973 Charger SE since willed to me by my grandmother 8 years ago and in that time I've fallen in love with the chargers in general.  Well, I'm now interested in trying to acquire a 2nd generation charger.  I'm not one for doing the whole restoration thing and I do not need a numbers matching or anything like that.  Unfortunately, my funds limit me from getting crazy as well.  Basically, i just want a decent charger that will be loads of fun and I can take a little pride in.

I came across this 70 RT clone on e-bay that fits my price range and appears to be reasonably restored.  I just don't have the experience to tell if it's a good deal for a decent car.  I know the auction has closed, but its available in my local area and I've exchanged e-mails with the owner.  I'd like to go see the car soon but would like to see if anyone has any advise or educated insight?  I know there is not a lot to go on, but your first impression will be better than mine.  Base on the images and description, let me know if there are any particulars i should pay attention when I go inspect.  Thanks for the help!!

It looks like the seller is doing his best to be truthful about the car - that's a good sign.

I'd be concerned that the underside is all covered up with undercoating already - but you should still be able to tell if things are solid - it'll just take a bit more work.

If you check it out and you're happy with it overall, I'd say get a mechanic to check out the mechanicals and if all is good there, start negotiating.

Not sure I like the new Spray Zinc Method. Never used it but seems the cheap low budget way to go. As far as I know this method sprays a liquid metal into rust holes to fill. Not sure how long that will last compared to cutting out, removing, sandblasting, ect? Freshly Painted trunk but getting Surface rust all ready? Looks good in Pics though, I'd have to drive & see in person to suggest a Price. LEON.

I am not trying to hijack the thread, but thought I could interject on a question that was asked......

Hemi-hampton-  I have read quite a few articles on the zinc fill process and I think that it is OK for the average driver quality car (kinda like a lead filling that the old lead sleds had).  The zinc acts as a galvanized area on the car, so it is harder for the iron to rust, but it still can rust under the wrong conditions if rust is still present before coating (same with lead if water can get under it by means of a crack or pore).  It needs to be applied by someone who knows what they are doing, or you risk having rust problems later on.  If you are into a concourse restoration for best of show results, then NOS sheetmetal is the only way to go as there is less chance of problems in the future (not to say that it won't rust, but those cars are ususally kept in better conditions than the regular drivers).  I would not have a problem with zinc filling in the Chargers that I intend on driving.....

It does not look like too bad of a deal, but definately have the rear window area and trunk lid seals looked at for holes if you buy it.  That is typically how water gets into the trunk area and starts rusting out the floor.  The trunk lid seals sometimes get brittle and need to be replaced (not to hard or $ to do).  The rear window area fix on the other hand.......

Don't buy anything from HALPG (Ludtke Automotive) out of Lake Villa, Ill. :rotz:

All they sell are unbelivable overly priced rust buckets that are made to look nice with new paint. ::)

I think I saw this car at the Mopar Nationals at Bandimere (I'm in Colorado as well)...   If its the same '70, pretty sharp car, very nice for a driver.   I'd say buy it as well.
