Not sure how many of you guys are Star Wars fans but this is cool.  The original movie was released 30 years ago today.  :yesnod:

I used to collect the original Star Wars figures and I always thought this poster was cool...

Forza

Im a huge star wars fan. I don't know if you get G4 but if you do theres a Star Wars special tonight that looked pretty good. George Lucas is definatley a very smart guy for not going corporate when he made the movies. Considering he owns all the rights to anything and everything Star Wars, he's one rich old man.

OH yeah.  Was just reading an article about how Star Wars changed the world.  For the better of Course.  Favorite line was from Tom Brokaw, "It's a classic western set in another universe"  Bout sums it up for me as well.

I do love the old Star Wars movies, Empire would have to be my all time favorite. I have been known to collect a few Star Wars items from time to time.

Ever seen 40 year old virgin?  When I look in that storeroom of yours, all I see is a bunch of money...

Did you see Carrie Fisher on TV last night? Looks nothing like Carrie Fisher, just some old 60-something haggard woman. The years have not been good to her.

Hey thats a nice collection.  I can do without the modern stuff but the vintage is cool!  I had alot of stuff like that over the years but not nearly as much at one time...  Heres some pics I took a few years ago.  I sold it all off and the only thing I kept was my favorite part, the loose figures in the display cases.

Oh and Empire is my favorite also, it came out the year I was born too.  :icon_smile_big:

Yeah she does look rough.  So does Mark Hamill though.  They were both in Jay and Silent Bob, that was hilarious...  "Cock Knocker"

Harrison Ford is my favorite and he still looks good for his age.

The old three SW movies are really interesting to me from a filmmaking point of view.  The earlier three SW movies almost single-handedly revived the art of special effects in Hollywood the later 1970s.  It's amazing how difficult it really was to get those movies made back in the day.  Their impact on the film industry as a whole was almost incalculable.

George Lucas gets all the credit for SW.  He still deserves 2/3rds of it, but Gary Kurtz & Irvin Kershner are the unsung heroes of the old trilogy.  Irvin Kershner is who really made "Empire Strikes Back" such an amazing movie.  He also did some (uncredited) directing on the more character-driven scenes in "Jedi."

--------------------------------------------------------------------

On the flip side, George Lucas is probably under-credited in pop culture's memory for how much he brought to the "Indiana Jones" series.  Overall, the Indy series was more Lucas's work than Spielberg's.

I figured I would wait 20 years or so, until I am 50, and then sell it all. By then the stuff will be worth something. But to be honest, I do not collect it for the money, I do it because I enjoy the movies.

Whats is really sad is, I have another room full of this stuff, and I rent a 10X15 storage unit as well.

IMHO, Star Wars merchandise has probably peaked.

I don't expect it to get CHEAP or anything, but I really doubt it's gonna continue to go up the way it did between the 1970s and the 1990s.  The franchise isn't growing fans the way it used to anymore.  And the original batch of fans has gotten old enough to dump their grown-up money back into the hobby already.
