69' Charger chrome bumpers:

Hello,

When I bought my 69' Charger to restore, it came with the front & rear chrome bumpers. However, they're pretty pitted and scuffed. I figured that the cost to have them restored smoothly/re-chromed would cost just as much, if not more, than to simply purchase new reproductions.

But I was talking to someone who told me that today's chrome bumper reproductions are made thinner and the chrome will fade quickly. Should I go through all the trouble of getting mine re-chromed/repaired or are the reproductions just as good in your experiences?

Here is an example of a place that I have considered purchasing new reproductions from:

Thank you for any tips, suggestions, & experiences with the reproduction bumpers,
Aaron

I also heard that some of the repops are not all that good.  Now if you didn't have any bumpers or yours were trashed then you should be thankful that there are repops there at all.  But since yours apparently just need some tlc, you should rechrome them.  Tri City in Elizabethton, TN has received consistantly good reviews.  I plan on driving mine up there before long.  They told me that the chrome on some of the repops will blue out after a couple or three years.  They use a triple chrome plating process on theirs to achieve a show finish and they say they guarantee theirs forever (or at least as long as they are in business).

Thank you guys for the responses. Yeah, the ones I have here are pretty rough, especially the front bumper...it's all bumpy and rough. But, it's good to know this stuff before I purchase repros. Take care & thank you again for the replies!
