spot painting engine compartment

I have grinded out my battery tray, the bolts were so rusted it might as well been welded in place.  The inner fender and below the tray looks terrible.  I am thinking of having the engine bay and trunk painted this winter.  Should I mess with that inner fender if so can I shoot it w/o a mess on outer fenders or engine and components?

Since you are going to shoot the entire thing this winter I would just wait and do it once and do it right.

well! I couldnt just let it go I knew that nasty rust was on the fender wall, So! I cleaned the area brushed on some por15 ? then mixwed my paint like I was gonna spray it and used a house painting sponge to spread it on.  Because the spot is covered by the battery and tray almost completly it looks real good, also the paint was so thin because it was prepared to spray you cant tell it was applied with a sponge.  I know what is there, so it will still need to be done right this winter!

you can mask off engine bay and paint it separately, make your masking breaks at lines that wont show when youre blending in
