thread seal on header bolts

I just discovered that i need some sealant on some of the header bolts as there is antifreeze getting past a couple of them. It appears that only the front and rear most bolts go into the water jacket of the motor (318). Can someone tell me for sure? The next two bolts in would require the header to be completely unbolted. Do all of them need a sealant on the threads? - thanks.

The front and back bolt holes go through to the water jacket and require sealant.  You could us studs on these two holes which works great if you have headers but could be difficult for installing exhaust manifolds.

I used Permatex ULTRA COPPER Hi-Temp RTV Silicone Gasket Maker and it seems to be working just fine

Yep, the Ultra copper works great....use it all the time on iron heads.  :yesnod:

Thanks for the quick response. I guess thats why those holes came with studs in them.
