Honestly why get an alarm?  I mean have you honestly ever heard a car alarm go off in the wal-mart parking lot and thought.  "Man someone is stealing a car"  Diddn't think so.  The only thing that comes to mind is dammit will somebody please turn that thing off?

I just put the little warning sticker in my windows... there is no alarm. I fig if someone wants it an alarm wont stop them, but as for the everyday stupid ass it makes them think twice. Also get a gun... if you are lucky enough to catch em!

Excatly.  Plus who likes cheap add-on electronics on their cars?  I sure don't.

I wouldnt mind and alarm just so I know if someones messing with my car.  I wouldnt expect that to keep anyone from stealing it if you parked it somewhere and werent around though.  I would install battery and/or fuel cut off switches.  Seems like better insurance to me.  If someone really wants it they will just haul it away anyways though.

I have a family member who insists on installing state of the art security systems on his vehicles that will not only make a lot of noise, but actually take a digital picture of the intruder and send it to a handheld keychain size screen that will save it for police to look at.  I could only guess how much he spent on this system, but I do know that so far the only benefit he's seen from it is having a really cool keychain. 

Someone actually attempted to break into my car about a year ago at a resteraunt near a freeway, but thanks solely to my "anti-theft" door locks, their plan was foiled.  Now I just try and park under lights, near busy areas, or where I can see it from a restaraunt window if possible.

As said before, the best thing is not to let it out of your sight, but that's not always possible.  I don't bother with an alarm on the Charger, but I do have cut-off switches and other devices to make trying to drive off with it a real challenge.  When trailering anywhere I have an alarm system on the cummins that will go off if someone gets on the car trailer.  It sends a signal to a key fob beeper dealy thingy.  At least that way I'll know if someones messing with the car while I'm in a hotel room.  I've caught a lot of cats jumping up on the trailer with that device.  Also, I always make sure I get a room that will overlook where I'm parked.  Bob

I have a GPS tracker. Works with or without an alarm. If your car gets stolen, you can track its location and pay the thieves a visit.

you mean a low jack right?
I asked the dealership on how much a low jack would  cost to put in a 71 Charger afew years back, they said about 500 to 600 bucks ain't bad. when someone decides or trys to steal her, you call the cops and they will track it down, alot better then some noise that people don't really care ya know. plus you can always do afew kill switches in there to that only you know about, that's my plan aswell.

its a lot cheaper than a lojack, and your car doesnt get stolen before something happens.  they claim to have never lost a car in 29 years to being hot-wired.  all a thief can do is haul it away.

I have the MSD ignition which has a cut off that I have conveniently hid.  And I turn the front wheels all the way to one side or the other.  It may not be thief proof but he or she will have to work at it.

The child room monitors work too from what I hear.

Zactly.  Just turn the base monitor up in your room to hear any and all noises.  No matter how quiet the theif tries to be, they're gonna make some sort of noise.    I would think it would also help if you're a light sleeper.

Years ago when I drove OTR I had a cheapee Radio Shack alarm in my big rig that had a pager.  One night when I was staying with my Mom I left the pager in her room and she brought it out to me beeping about 3 in the morning.  I threw a shirt on and hauled a$$ over to the grocery store parking lot where I was parked and caught the dude up inside the truck with the alarm blarring away.  I yelled at him, and he jumped out and took off running.  I chased him across the freeway and a old beater car was right behind me so I took the license number from it for the cops.  I asked the cops what would have happened if I was in the truck sleeping and he said I legally had the right to pop him so long as he didn't fall out of the truck and if he did I needed to put him back in the truck before they showed up, since the truck was considered my home, which it was.

Sorry so long, just passing on my experiences with how a $99 alarm saved me over $4k I had in stereo equipment.  All he made off with was a police scanner and my sense of security.

Just take the battery out and the coil wire  ..I used to take the coil wire out and take it with me..but I suppose if they really wanted it.......

When I was in high school my buddies dad had a 63 Chevy.  He never let him drive it, but knowing what kind of kid he was, knew it wasnt safe to leave it operational.  He used to hide the rotor in the tool shed.  That didnt stop him though, he found it and would just pop the rotor in whenever his dad was gone and take the car out and put it back before he got home.

They're on ebay cheaper than this one and a lot more $$.  I don't know about the new ones but the old ones you would wire into the door ajar light that would trigger the alarm.  I would guess a person could take it a step further and wire it into a switch for the hood, something like the trunk.  That way you would know if someone was opening the hood trying to disconnect the battery (alarm).  A thief needs the battery to steal a rig unless they're using a roll back so I guess it's a Catch 22.

So what if I go with LoJack? Is there a good price out there for it? And how does the ravelco alarm work? Can't people just pass that under the hood?

Lojack is nice because there's a very good chance you'll get your car back after it's stolen, but it's really not much of a deterrent. If I do get Lojack I will also be sure to add another layer of protection to hopefully end an attempted theft before it starts.
