I personally like 'em both..... but I'd give a slight edge in styling and powertrain options to the 71/72.

 IMO, I think the ruined the body lines on the 73/74 Chargers, and the killed the roof line. They also made the 73/74 Heavier and Uglier, Just like my X-Wife.

that is just if you pick SE... but hartops and coupes are without louvers and they are by a small difference the most assemblied... and some rare 73 SEs assemblied without louvers ( only year option to choose that )

There were 74 SE's that you can get without the louvres.  I have seen them out of Lynch Road cars.

 Window louvers on 73/74 Chargers did not help the cars anyway.....They still lost their Bodylines and sharper image.

I think the non-SE '73s and '74 have a nicer roofline, but I prefer the '71s and '72s for the suspension, pretty much a rebodied Challenger with a better interior.

 73/74 I think had a horrible roof line.  The 71/72 look like they are going 110mph standing still.

Personally, I like the '73/'74 S.E.s better then my '72 S.E. I like the louvered windows

I'm not sure what the 73,74's came out with -  so I'm just going by what I've seen.

To be honest, one of the very best and nicest looking 3rd Gen cars I've ever seen was a 73 in Mopar Muscle once which was green and owned by a guy whose parents bought it new. Of course there was also a purple 71 R/T in a very old edition of High Performance Mopar which quite simply had the best side on profile of any car I have EVER seen.

I've had 68's, 69's, 71' and '73's and since I can't vote for the 2nd gens I'll vote for the black '71 SE I had with hideaway headlights.
Nice car but ran like crap and I couldn't afford to fix it right at the time, it was either the '68 R/T I had at the time or the '71 SE. I chose the better of the two 

Strange thing was that the '71 cost me $950 back then and the '68 was $500.00 and was three times the car. My first '73 was $250 and ran great although it had a cracked windshield, it was yellow and had a 400 2bbl.

  Ditto, back in '85 when Chargers were $500, I saw an ad for a nice '70 383 Charger, it turned out to be a '71 so I passed.  $500

Of course I did like this old '73 that we used to run. Never lost a race in it and although you can't really see , it had a nice custom paint job.
Black with thin green stripe with another pinstripe next to it just along the upper portion, below the door window trim running back to the trunk and across the top rear portion of the lid at the lock. Also ran up across the top like a Starsky stripe and into a point on the hood.  The green was very subtle and blended in nicely. Well built 440 which replaced the old tired 400 4v.  440 was 11.5:1 comp and good gas was getting hard to come by for it ( we're also at 4700 feet altitude) .
When the car launched it paused for a brief millisecond, just lifted up and then took off!
Sweet stereo and plush custom interior, remember this was also when custom cars were still in. Most who cruised in SLC in the period knew the car or heard of it.

I hated the wheels at first but they grew on me. Better than the Centerlines that were hot in that period and wouldn't have looked good on it anyway. M50x15's on the back if memory serves but they tucked in under the well and were flush to the outer fender.

We still have the car stashed away but it hasn't been run in probably 10 years and the paint and interior is faded now even though it's been covered most of the time. Someday we might take the motor and trans out and sell the rolling body. I wonder if and how well the motor runs?


That's my other half driving it, she was about 17 at the time, total lead foot and loved to race!
( Nope, she's not allowed to drive the GTX alone )

Rob, are you sure you aren't talking about Spring Specials ?... they use same quarter filler plug and glass but frame instead louvers... they are WH23...

another ones are the celebrity or option... those are in fact SEs without louvers, but I think they are 73s... not sure thought, just have seen one on ebay LOOONG time ago and don't remember

I prefer the 71-72 with the 73 Rallye and 71 Super bee being my favorites.  I own a 73 Rallye that I am cloning to be a Bee, but more of a custom,  I have shortened the front bumper brackets to elimenate the bumper filler, removed the front and rear bumperetts, sand blasted and painted the bumpers body color, have an air grabber hood that will have the super bee black out from the 71, but it will have a bumble bee tail stripe with the rumble bee bee decal incorporated into it. and a go wing.  It will also have the small Super bee words on the fenders and back of deck lid like the 71 and some scat pack bees for the rear window just for good measure.  I think it is going to look very good but I am sure there will be people that don't like it.

I'll take changing plugs in my '72 any day over changing plugs in my Ford Aerostar mini van. You have to change 2 of them by feel only

I hear ya that last plug on the pass side is rediculous. A friend of mine gave me his after everytime he hit the elec. window button it went into passing gear ..........I sold it for scrap!!
