I was readjusting my dwell today and I accidentally set it at about 22*, it made the engine smooth, it was the best I've ever seen it run. Is it possible that my setup may want a lower dwell? Are there any potential problems with running it that low? Could the coil overheat?

Less dwell = dist wear....with less dwell the coil does not need as much time to saturate, so it will not build up as much heat..........kim...

It should be around 30*, at 22 the coil won't overheat because the points are not closed for very long and the saturation is to short. What you actually did was increase the timing a bit by having the points open a little sooner then before. At idle it may seem fine but under a load you should start having misfire problems because the spark won't be fat enough to burn the fuel. Good luck.

I would save 185 bucks and buy the electronic conversion kit.....My 2 cents, less messing around.
