Gas Leak at Filler Grommet (I think)

I filled the tank of my 69 for the first time since owning it. It had less than 10 gallons in it prior
to the fill up with no leaks. Once full, gas started dripping from the top area of the tank. The leak eventually stopped once the
level in the tank dropped slightly. The filler neck grommet was a little wet with fuel. It appears that it is about 1/4" from seating flush.
I would love to see pictures of properly seated filler tube grommet. I also don't remember seeing a vent line while under the car but I need
to confirm this.

Leaking fuel is a serious concern and any help solving the problem would be appreciated.

Are there any other areas that I should check that could be leaking?

Pictures of the filler neck grommet and vent lines installed on a 69 would be a great help.

Thanks

There have been reports of some repop filler neck grommets being of inferior material and dissolving.
Pardon me but my karma just ran over your dogma.

:iagree:  They're still available from Chrysler.

I'd drop the tank, put in a new grommet and check to see if the tanks rusted out.

It's not a midlife crisis, it's my second adolescence.

make sure to lube the new grommet with vasoline or similar so you dont mar or cut it causing a leak
