1970 Chrysler Newport Custom

Hi All

I just discovered this car which seems to be quite original in all and very much in a perfect condition.
It is a two door car with a 400 engine and factory fitted A/C and works perfectly well.
I had never seen the likes of it, and wonder how common or rare is it?

Actually, they were very common back in the day.  Someone would need to go through the numbers to see how all the options stack up as to rarity, but a two-door Newport Custom was a pretty common car back then.

I like the body shape of this and have seen quite a few of this in very nice condition for sale now and then.

We had the Town & Country station wagon version of that when I was a kid...different grille, though.
Looks like a nice car, even if it does have a coolant leak.

Looks pretty good but check the VIN and the engine pad for true engine size. The 400 air cleaner does not look stock.

It could be a car built for export too. It appears to have a 200kph speedometer. I'd be interested in seeing the fender tag if you can get a picture.

It's nice and I'd drive it, BUT it's at least a 72 or 73. You can tell by the grill. Also the 383 or 440 in 70, 400 was 72 and one(replaced 383)Drive it!!

5 to 1 says they just put the dual snorkel on there.  what is the VIN?

I'd say its a 72, When I was growing up we had a 70 Red/Black 2 door Newport Custom and it had a 838 and the Tail Lights were Horizantal and not Vertical like the one in the Photo!

I'm surprised that no one realized that the '70 300 had the same front bumper (in looks anyways) as the '70 Charger!

there ya have it.. good show az...though the first year of the 400 actually came out in the latter part of the 71 model year, but only in c bodies. hehe

Thanks guys for all the comments and information.

True as indicated by some of you, it is a 72. I called the mechanic and had him read the VIN code and it is CM23M2C256081 which shows everything to be correct except the 4 barrel. According to the code, the engine is a 400 but 1-2 barrel
Anyway, when I next visit him, I will see if the body tag is still there, then I will read it and see what else is authentic on this car.
And yes it is an export model, in Lebanon (Middle East) where I am, as originally it was purchased from the Chrysler agent here.
