how do I get comp to play certain video files?

If you have Windows, you should have the Windows media player.   It should play those files.   If it doesn't, go to options and check to see if it recognizes them.  In "options", go to "file types, then see which file types are checked.  Also, you might need an update.   You can also, download Real Player at http://www.real.com/   You will need "scripting" on, for the page to load.

make sure you have latest video codecs. if you go to Help and click on "check for windows media player updates"

i've been using Winamp (like better than media) and all of the file types are selected and still some video's wont play I even have Divx Codec 5.0

Id get windows media player, and what OS ure running, windows 98? XP, something else? if 98 youll have 9.0 version of WMPlayer and check out link for codecs

this should make most videos playable for you

And if even those won't play it. Try to get a hold of VLC Media Player. That has always been my last resort and has helped me out 90% of the time. Not a very useable program but it does show you the vid.
