Just 6T9 CHGR

Finally got my numbers correct "055" radiator back from the shop after a recore.  I had them install a 3 row high efficency core.
This core has 1/2" tubes (as opposed to stock 3/8" tubes)  The tubes are spaced only 3/8" apart as opposed to the stock 1/2" apart.  This equates to more capacity, more fins/tubes per square inch.

Took the car out for its first seasonal ride around the block.   Ambient temp was only 60º but the temp gauge never went above 160º.  This the degree thermostat in the car.  It NEVER stayed at thermostat temp before.
I might be needing a 180º t-stat now ;)

I also plumbed in a B & M stacked plate style trans cooler (upon Ron's recommendation) using hard line.  I mounted it up in the "stock" hemi style cooler location.  This time I bypassed the cooler in the rad and I'm running this alone.   This cooler is large/efficent enough to cool my trans more than enough.  Some say to route the cooler in series (which I had on my old setup) to aid in warming the trans fluid up on cold days....60º is the minimum I take my car out anyway so this wont be an issue for me :thumbs:

  did you have to order the core special because I have only seen the 3/8 tubes? I assume that is the original top tank?

That is the orig top & bottom tank.  The top tank has the all important part # on it ;)  The 055 is orig a 2 core.  You have to "stretch" the lower tank to get the new core to fit.  Yes the core was special ordered from a mfg in Philadelphia, PA

I bolted it to the rad support in the same location as a factory hemi trans cooler...made up some spacers and fabbed up a bracket to bolt to the grill support frame for the other side

O.k. So it doesn't flop around on the passenger side of the cooler?

Sorry about the questions, I planned on putting in a trans cooler. And your setup looked pretty clean.

For just the rad recore or the entire "project" including the purchase of the used rad, new shroud, nuts, rad cap, overflow hose, trans cooler, steel line, fittings etc?

$525 for the recore & just a tad over $900 for the entire job incl the recore :rotz:

 thats in line with what I found.I think it was $550 and he would get the botton tank that I need but it was 3/8 tubes

Correct enough according to Mr Alphin.  The small rivit caps are so cheaply made, I wouldnt use one even if it were correct.  This is the same cap I had on the car already, just new ;)

I thought 69 had the flat stamped style rad cap and 70 used the raised stamped style cap.

Your thinking is correct....my radiator was built on the last day of production for 69 and it got the newer style cap............mmmmmm kkkk???   :scratchchin:  :rofl:

It's MY own personal opinion the cap on the left IS correct  for the 1969 and older cars......HOWEVER,,,,,,,, I've  been told by people whom's  opinion I trust and respect, the cap in the middle is ALSO correct for1967 thru 1971. ALTHOUGH I personally have never seen one on an original unrestored car. next up is there are actually 2 versions of the cap in the center, one with SMCO in the center one without SMCO . I carry both.

Problem is the 69 down  style cap is very poorly made , I used to carry them but discontinued it due to quality issues (very cheaply plated that wil not last if you plan to drive the car) If it sits in an controlled enviroment,or if a customer HAS to have that style, Fellwocks has it.

I just found a new repro one that was in my bin o' parts in my basement that is a 69 flat style.  Currently, I have the center one that Chris has on it now and the plating is oxidizing really bad on it.  Luckily I have a buffing wheel that I can polish it up and possibly spray semi gloss clear on it to take the shine down a bit.  What I will probably be doing at shows is swapping out the incorrect raised radiator cap for the flat rad cap.
