How much in your Honest opinion would you spend on restoring a 72 SE 318 car..I've started on replacing lower quarters..but It looks like I will have to replace part of the roof, atleast the a-pillars..is it worth it? I know its my car and I determine the value but..Im curious. I have a few pics..the fram rails are very solid!
Earth. Even the word sounded strange to me now... unfamiliar. How long had I been gone? How long had I been back? Did it matter? I tried to find the rhythm of the world where I used to live. I followed the current. I was silent, attentive, I made a conscious effort to smile, nod, stand, and perform the millions of gestures that constitute life on earth. I studied these gestures until they became reflexes again. But I was haunted by the idea that I remembered her wrong -Solaris

If your going that far to redo it, drop a big block in it or at least a 360. You can find a roof fairly easy yet.

If you can do the work yourself, do it. If you have to pay a shop to do that rust repair it will cost you a fortune...

CharlieCharger

I plan on doing the trunk, and a few other parts but..the roof and a pillars im leaving it to someone who`s good with metal..I have to be honest I have been sitting on it for a while wondering if its gonna be worth it..but I really love the car and she is pretty when intact.

I love 72 SE's. I had a black on tan 400 auto one that I added 72 Rallye doors, tailights and a bulge hood to. They are cool cars, but IMHO, if you are doing it for profit to sell right away, it's a waste of time. The 318 cars are nothing. However, in ten years it will be a different ball game. If you restore at todays costs and keep it for awhile you will definately recoup. About 2 cents worth...

TruckDriver

It is worth it. I have had people tell me because the trunk in my desert car is rusted out, it's not worth it. But even though it is a small following, there are people out there that love the '72 SE rear quarter windows. I didn't like them at first, but once I got used to them, I like them now.  :yesnod:

I love this '72 SE.

I had that happen too. I won't name the DC.com board either where that happened :D

I would however, trade it for a second gen in the same condition as mine...

Like that will ever happen :P

Its worth it.  Thats a good looking car and those parts arent that hard to come by.  You may have a little money into it if you dont do the metal work but in the end you will be glad you did.

Third gen prices are going up. If you build it the way you want it and intend to keep it for a while you wont get hurt on it. Just make it desirable. Paint it a good color, put a hot motor in it and it will do just fine. If you put a big block hemi in there and you could pretty much name your price when it's done.

I just view building a muscle car as a personal experience and when you're done it will be worth more to you than you could ever sell it for.  I know some people don't see it that way, but I just don't understand any other way to look at it.  We're guys (most of us) and any woman will tell you our cars are just an extension of our ..........
