Hey gang....
Once again, I have an E-body question. What are the number of individual springs/halves that make up the springs of Challenger R/T's with a 440-six pack.

I thought they were the same as the HD B-body springs :shruggy:

OK, now, back to basics........ I'm checking the parts book for '70/'71.... For '70, the 440 and 426 equipped B-J's (Barracuda and Challenger), there are two different part numbers for the springs, 3420176 and 3420177. By this, there are two different springs and I believe them to be the 6 and 7 leaf versions.. Now, for '71, the book calls for the left and right (quantity 2) to be part number 3549059. Those I believe to be the 6 leaf versions on both sides........ Soooooo, although the Mopar Performance version of the XHD springs may be wrong for the '70 model year, it looks to be fairly more accurate for '71......

Now, the '71 B-body is a different story. There's still two different part numbers reflective of the 6 and 7 leaf springs......

W - Charger/Coronet is part numbers 3004767-8

Thanks Geno..

A quick check in the Paul Herd Challenger-Barracuda Resto book (not a perfect bible by any stretch) reveals him quoting 70 and 71 as having 5 1/2 leaves for both sides.  I would guess his 5 1/2 is your 6 and his inclusion of 1970 in that statement is another error on his part.  His Charger resto book has a lot of mistakes as well.  Better than nothing and very very good overall, but both still seem to have some wrong info (he's a Pontiac guy so what do you expect).
What is interesting, is that the Chrylser Muscle Parts Interchange Manual, which he also wrote, verifies what you said about part numbers but still claims the 70 model as having 5 1/2.  He does mention the 71 Charger as 6 and 7 (5 with two half leaves as he describes it).
So, anybody on here own an original 70 Hemi Challenger that can check for us?
