3rd gen door alignment

I have put 74 SE doors on my 73.  I changed the hinges every thing seems to be lined up but the door won't pull all the way closed.  It seems like the striker pin is to big.  Are there different pins in the 73 and 74?  I wouldn't think so.  Any suggestions?

Just went through this on the weekend myself... still haven't got it perfect - but another 20mins of tweaking should do it.

Anyhoo, I got the door placed on there (closed) and the hinges loosely bolted to the car and rolled my jack with a 2x4 on it to rest the door on -- with the door opened a bit. Eyeballed it for height and tightened everything up. Been tweaking by doing doing mounting points in a pair -- ie: loosened all the bolts to the door to tweak while closed or loosened hinge-body bolts all at once.

Shuts nice and clean - but I still have to adjust a *tiny* bit for the body lines.

Dunno -- anyway...just what I found worked....

73 and 74 are same doors and hinges

sometimes you have to grind alittle bit where the striker is mounted to pull it either forward or push it back.

when I made the alignment on my doors on my last body job beside change pins and install bushings also did need to adjust the hinges angle and the area where they attach on body. Along the years hinges itself start to bend a little bit and also the body starts to bump in, so need to remove inner reinforcement and get it straighten again. Same to hinges, to get it on right angle.

Yeah its a pain for sure.  Im attempting to line up my doors on my 73 at the moment too.     It looks like I need to swap out hinges but I think I have a decent set to use.

Quick question how many different adjustment points are there on these doors.do the bushings on the inside of the door affect it closing correctly.my door  seams like its lighned rite it just closes to tight and goes past the body ,

The difference may be the latch.  There was a slight difference from and early 73 and 74 on the left side.
PN 3548565 up to 10/72.  After 10/72 it is listed as 3695453.  It has something to do with how it pushes away from the body when you pull the lever as I recall.
As I said that may or may not be your issue but if you have an early 73 door on a later 74 ... just a thought.
