Back in the mid 80's I was lured to the 'dark side' and sold my cars and all of my parts and bought a Porsche 944 and two MG's and later a couple of Fiat Spyders.
While I really liked the cars I missed the Mopars and it took me 5 years to relocate the GTX and round up parts etc again but I lost many neat parts never to be seen again.  :rotz:

I don't really plan on walking away from my Mopars again now after that lesson.

Pretty much been the opposite for me. I pretty much was all GM (with a couple of Fords here and there) until I got my first Mopar in the mid '80s. But of the past couple of years, I'm slowly starting to buy Chevys again.

Old Moparz

Not entirely, but for a while in the late 80's & early 90's I didn't bother with much for a number of reasons. I had been hosed by a body shop with my Satellite convertible & went to court. All that dragged out for over a year & cost me several thousand dollars in some shit body work. Not only did it leave me with no cash to put into the car, but it took the wind out of the car hobby sails on me. Also, during that time I was house hunting & bought a house that had no garage. I rented space for my Satellite, but most garage rentals are for parking only & frown on repairs.

No garage & very little money will test your resolve in the car hobby, but I never sold off my car or parts knowing that I'd get back to it some day. So after some rest from all of it, I got back into it several years later. I took the Scamp out of daily driver status, had some body work done on it & got it painted. Now I had some cash saved for the garage, but quotes to build one were 3 times what I had expected them to be. Saving up money to build the garage took a long time, but I had to save even more to get one now. I only planned on a 2-1/2 car garage & decided to just build it myself.

With the money I saved from doing it on my own, I was able to build a much larger one, add a second floor, & still not spend as much. I felt a little burnt out from spending a year of weekends, vacations, & nights after work building it, but it was worth it. Again I didn't do much with the cars for awhile, but I knew I could just close the garage doors & take a break instead of worrying about what to do. I picked up some steam with my interest again, but by then my daughter was born & things slowed down. She's older now, the internet & forums make finding interest easy, so I'm back at it with a much larger interest than before.

I just hope I don't freakin' die before I finish something.  :D

Wow, I was without Mopar Muscle for a while from the late 80's. Had quite a few in the 80's.  Always had at least one Chrysler product kicking around though.  It really hit me hard when I sold my 69 RR 2 years ago after I had owned it for only a year.  It was like a piece of me was dead.  Anyway, got in a situation to get a Charger again and took it(now i'm really in a situation, lol), i'll never look back again and I will own this Charger forever even though it is a driver.  Lots of fun and I enjoy working on it more than any other car.  I haul my 55 and I drive my Charger. :icon_smile_big:

If I had any kind of money I would be tryin to buy and restore even more Mopars.  Charger is my first choice, but I like a number of B Body cars as well as others.  I'd really like to own a Cuda' too.

Life isn't Father Knows Best anymore, it's a kick in the face on a saturday night with a steel toed grip kodiak work boot and a trip to the hospital all bloodied and bashed.....for reconstructive surgery. But, what doesn't kill us, makes us stronger, right?

In '86 after the bad accident in my Barracuda.  A car that took me 5 years to restore.  My baby. :pity:  The accident knocked the wind out of my sails for awhile. A part of me died that day. Before that,  I loved going to car shows, Mopar Club meetings, Drag races, hanging out with my Mopar buds.  The 1st year after the wreck I went to 1 show.  I rode with a friend of mine.  All I heard that whole day was aren't you the girl that had the purple Cuda?  Where is it?  What happened to your leg?  It was very depressing.  I still drove Mopar, but nothing worth showing.  I quit going to shows up to '90.  It was the 1st Chryslers ar Carlisle Show.  I was talking to my old boss and he asked me if I was going .  I said I doubt it.  I was seperated at the time.  Driving a '73 Ruster.  He asked if money was a problem?  Of course plus I wasn't putting the Ruster in the show.  So he handed me weekend passes to Carlisle.  And told me he expected to see me there with my son and daughter.  And if I didn't go he would personally kick my ass.  I haven't missed a year since.  I never stopped driving Mopar but did get out of the hobby for 4 years.  And I owe Ken bigtime for giving me those passes and  giving me back something I loved and enjoyed so much.

Never sold my car.  It sat for almost 6 years outside in AZ.  Didn't have time, MONEY or the space for it.  Almost sold it, then my girlfriend (now my wife) told me to keep it.  HEHE, she's kicking herself in the butt now. Hope to have it home from storage soon and will start in on chassis and body work...

Thought about quitting the hobby several times.... mostly when money was tight, and it seemed like nothing would ever get any better. Giving up Mopar for another brand was never a consideration..... just gave some serious thought to selling everything I had related to the hobby and driving nothing but everyday average beaters. It probably wouldn't have lasted though, and I'm glad I didn't do it in hindsight.

I have had my Charger since 78. I never would sell it. The original owner was drafted to go to Vietnam. His parents finally sold it after they complained it was just sitting as the war dragged on. In the early 80's the original owner showed up at my house and looked like a long lost puppy as he seen the Charger in my garage. He said he came down to buy it back. I said i don't think so. He said what did I have to have for it. I said twice as much as you paid for it new. I said 7,500. He put his tail between his leg and left.I never seen him again....kinda felt bad for him but not that bad.  :pity: I haven't driven it over 1,000 miles since like 82. Now she is on the rotissorie and I can't wait to drive her again when shes all done. So NO I never got out of the MoPar hobby. I just regret letting some others go way back when....just couldn't part with this one though. :icon_smile_big:

as far as cars go in general im not really all that biased, but when it comes to muscle cars mopars are and always will be top of the list for me , there are some other brand cars that i would own also if i won the lotto but but there would be about 20 mopars in front of them on the list ..so to answer you question yes i would and do own things that arent mopars but have i strayed over to any other brand ? not in muscle but in everday normal transportation heck yeah they are all build by humans and they all build good ones and they are all perfectly capible of building junk!!

I sold my '70 Charger R/T back in 1994 to buy something more practical for a daily driver...  Ended up purchasing a '92 Dodge Stealth R/T Twin Turbo (AWD for Colorado Winters).    Worked on and built a couple Stealths and finally a 3000GT VR4, before selliing it last Spring.   I purchased my '69 Charger in May of 2006 and I couldn't ever picture selling it now.    ;D
