MOPARHOUND!

Hello,

Don't know much about Chebby anything.  This engine is in a 4 door Impala/Biscayne(?), buried by a rat's nest.  I'm thinking the car is a 67?

Could this be a 283, 327, or did they make a 350 then?

Thanks.

*Speed costs money son, how fast do you want to go, and for how long?"
*"Build the biggest engine you can afford the first time."
*"We normally wouldn't use a 383 for this build, parts and labor for a 440 cost the same."

You're right on it being a '67, as for the engine I'm having a tough time getting it down. Sadly Chevy "tags" don't tell you what the engine is, nor tell you the VIN number either.

UPDATE: From what I can tell it looks to be a 350! Sadly 327's are pretty rare, I happen to have one sitting in a pickup at my uncle's place with a '69 date code on it and it's slowly seizing up. I've tried to buy it from him many times but he's asking way too much money for it.

I thought the 350 came out in 68?

My guess would be a 283.

Pigs is right, I can't believe I missed it! '67 was the last year for the 283 (which turned into the 350)... the 327 ended in '69!

UPDATE! Pigs is right about the 283! The long oil spout on the front gives it away as a 283! A 327 would have a rad hose going to that location instead!

the marking on the head is a little gooy for a 283 though.   should be a block with a triangle centered on the top...........

That is a 210 horse 327.  I have the same exact motor in my Camaro.  The heads are a dead giveaway.  327's had the oil spout in that exact location.  If you can read the numbers and letters on the pad in the front of the block that will tell me more.  Or if you could read the numbers on the back of the block at the top near the transmission, it would also tell what it is.  327 is a good score IMHO.

Thanks for all the replies.

I knew the cast in block looking thingy at the front of the heads meant something to the Chebby guys, so I made sure to take a pic of that.  Years ago you used to hear about "double hump" and "202" heads when talking to a chevy guy.

15 years ago a guy showed me in the oil fill spout and heater hose to intake manifold area there is a way to differentiate on the manifold(?) or block(?) between a 283 and 327???

I looked on YearOne's website, and the engine ID pad is in the same location as the Mopar 383/400's, correct?  In front of the passenger side cylinder bank head, on the block deck?

What's a 210 horse 327 engine and trans worth?  Missing the air cleaner, and a thief made off with the radiator, but the fan, pulleys, P/S, and alternator stuff is all their.

More than likely the tranny is a two speed power glide, worth about 50 bucks. Chevy motors are very plentiful still, so the value of the motor may be around a 100 buck. All 283 and 327 small journal cranks are steel and have some value. You would prolly find more folks wanting the car for parts than the drivetrain is worth.  J

I'm pretty sure the "202" heads were angle plug heads used with the 302 DZ motors & hipo 350's. The "double hump" heads are also known as "fuelie" heads, from the early FI cars.
Maybe.
Don't hold me to it, though. :icon_smile_big:

The Aquamax...yes, this bike spent 2 nights underwater one weekend. (Not my doing), but it gained the name, and has since become pseudo-famous. :)
