I'm going to look at air compressors this week, my arms ache from sanding. looking to spend $300.00 tops, any suggestions on a good one? I want to stay away from the oilless units.

You are not going to get much for $300.   Probably about the best you will get is a 5hp/20gal tank rig.  I have a similar setup that I have been using for 30 years and it has served me well but it runs out of air real quick particularly on sanders.  Jitterbugs are not so bad but the circular types eat air.  Take a look at the air tools you want to run and see what pressure and cfm air they need.  That will be your guide to what unit you should buy.  Of course, it will also depend on what kind of room you have and whether you have 220 available.  I will say that my air compressor is about the most useful tool I have after a drill motor.  I have a Ingersoll Rand 5hp/80gal/2 stage that I am setting up now.  I think Tractor Supply sells them.  Ingersoll Rand has a pretty good name.  Don't pass up Harbor Freight on air tools.  They have a impact wrench that is a direct copy of a IR231 1/2 inch impact air tool.  And some of the IR air tools are Chinese made now.  Don't forget to use air tool oil with your tools and get a good filter to get the water out of the air.  Otherwise, your air tools will rust internally.  I lost a DA sander this way.

in my opinion you will need at least  13 cfm

I got a verticle unit from cumming Industrial unit it was on sale for $450 I believe.  I have no problem pushing a DA but it is a 440 unit you will need to wire it to your pannel.  or pay to have some one wire it.
