Montoya should be in a Toyota!

Why is that?

Because he wouldn't be on the track running into everybody!

Cue up the band again...

From Jayski.com, reporting the race teams on the bubble after the first/only practice at Richmond...  The ranking after the driver's name indicates their position on the speed chart:

Quote from: jayski.com
Where did the non top-35 drivers practice?

If things stayed the same, these drivers make the race:

#44-Dale Jarrett [no champ prov left in 2007], 3rd fastest
#83-Brian Vickers, 13th
#10-Scott Riggs, 16th
#22-Dave Blaney, 17th
#00-David Reutimann, 23rd
#36-Jeremy Mayfield, 25th
#84-A.J. Allmendinger, 29th
#78-Kenny Wallace, 31st

If things stayed the same, these drivers miss the race:

#15-Paul Menard, 34th
#4-Ward Burton, 37th
#46-Johnny Benson, 40th
#37-Kevin Lepage, 41st
#21-Ken Schrader, 43rd
#49-Mike Bliss, 49th
#55-Michael Waltrip, 50th/last.

And once again he will be watching the race from home. This time DJ will bring the popcorn, and they can watch it together.  ;)

I was beginning to agree with the "toss out the top 35 rule", but now I am not.  Dave Blaney ran a 125.00 qualify
ing lap when most of the other toyota's were around 123.5.  I think I'm ok with the top 35 rule, toyota needs to get the different teams working together for a year or two and then cut them loose to fight against each other.

dont get me wrong, I actually could be a waltrip fan, especially if he made a race.   :icon_smile_blackeye:

BTW, I find it somewhat amazing that Newman wins the pole about 20% of the time (200 career starts, 39 poles), but he hasn't won since early '05.  Follow through, man!

I'm not going to bother trying to change your mind but I am curious as to why so many people are so concerned with Toyota competing in NASCAR.  Don't get me wrong, I'm not going to flame you or even try to defend Toyota because honestly it has no affect on my life whatsoever, but I do wonder sometimes why so many folks feel threatened when a new competitor shows up.  I will say, Toyota is not much of a threat now, but is one of the reasons folks have such a difficult time accepting change simply out of fear of their success?  Obviously they have achieved success with regards to car sales, could they dominate the racing circuits one day as well?  That seems to really bother some folks.  Why is that?   :shruggy:

Shakey, I've been a Nascar fan since the days of Richard Petty's 73 Charger and Hemis and 427s, I had an uncle that worked for Jimmy Means when he raced out of here in Huntsville Alabama.

It's always been one of the few purely American sports left in the world, nobody did stock car racing like the USA  :patriot:

It's just a thing about seeing a foreign make (I KNOW Daimler owns/owned Dodge, but the are racing DODGES) racing with the Fords Dodges and Chevys, much as I can't stand em, I'd rather see a Hendrick Chevy win than any yoyota. Even if it's jimmie johnson ( :puke: :puke: :puke: ) MAN that hurt to say!

Bottom line, for a longitme fan it's like brian france digging a knife into what USED to be my favorite sport. Between common cars, foreign cars, those silly cars of tomorrow with their sucky racing, and the whole powers that be in Nascar trying to remove ANY AND ALL personality from the drivers and the sport itself, they are driving a stake straight into its heart. Ratings are down (ratings were down for Bristol and Darlington that should be a HUGE RED FLAG!!!!!!!) and the fans who have been fans the longest are turning away in droves, and a whole lot of the ones that watch now are simply "in thing" fans, when the next big thing comes along (Competitive cup stacking or bedframe and sofa-sleeper racing?) they will disappear from the grandstands and the longtime fans won't care anything about it anymore either.  They are cutting their own throats and they don't care.

And I still hate yoyotas, I still hate all the changes and I still think it should be Gm Ford and Mopar and NOBODY ELSE!

What about lettting Hudson, or Mercury, or Pontiac back in? Would you be okay with those? Or even Oldsmobile?

Didnt pontiac quit nascar?  seems like if they wanted in they could be.

I said Gm Ford and Mopar, Now they don't make Hudsons anymore but last time I looked, Pontiac was a GM and Mercury was still Ford.

Were Hudson to suddenly reappear, then yeah they should be allowed, But I still feel the way I feel. Try if you want but That ain't gonna change.

Remember tho the qualifying package is quite different then the racing package on these cars. They go all out for the two laps like on the verge of blowing the motor, so they can go as quick as possible. When they get in the race it's made so they can endure the length of the race. I would assume they toss out the unnecessary driver comfort items like even the races the y give the drivers water thats a couple pounds right there etc. I dunno what stuff they'd remove but I know they have two different packages.

Yeah mikey's pretty pathetic right now. Personally I hope he gets better. I'm not a fan but I honestly hate to see him end his career this way. maybe he'll get a brain and switch to a dodge  ;D
