Paul, the FI will limit your cam choices. Profiles with lots of overlap don't work well with the FI computer. Are you wanting a solid or hydraulic cam profile ?

Hi Ron,
Long time no speak  ;D

Hydraulic.

How ya been buddy  :icon_smile_cool:....surving the winter all right ?  :P

On the cam....Engle k58 on a 112* lsa should work fine with 470 cubes....lots of vacuum and smooth idle. You can use the stock e-head springs and upgrade to a heavy duty non adjustable rocker arm or adjustable valvetrain if you so desire.

Cool!
Thanks Ron :2thumbs:

I've been good, just trying not to freeze  :icon_smile_dead:

I've got the Crane roller rockers that came on these heads (used) - the springs are WAAAY overkill Hughes roller cam units - Two coils with damper...  The previous owner sold the Eddy springs on eBag.  What springs do you recommend?  What lifters?

I'll call Engle tomorrow...

Stay warm Paul !  :icon_smile_big:

The crane golds are fine but those springs have to go ! I would order the lifters and valvesprings from Engle. What ratio are the crane golds...1.5 or 1.6 ? Make sure you specify the rocker ratio when you order the valvesprings....that is important info for them to have.  ;)

I've got the 1.5's, I checked them today.

I've also got to get my head checked... I went out for a walk (march) this morning  :o -20*C I looked like the kid in "A Christmas Story"
Isn't Spring just a week away  ??? LOL

Ahhh...Crane Golds!!!

That's just my thoughts on them! :icon_smile_dissapprove:

How's it going Paul, I got some "spare" Cranes if you ever need them. You say they're used, i don't think i'd trust them, do you know how old and how long they been used with those roller springs? Talk to Stacey about them, he'll tell ya what i went through last summer. Actually Ron came out one summer night to "babysit" the car while i went and got my trailer to haul the Coronet home after breaking one. Which was repaired less than 24hrs from breaking another. They split in 2 at the fulcrum. I switched to Harland Sharp and no more problems!

Can't wait to see the beast up and running!

Just curious, not trying to hijack your thread, however, hope nobody minds,

What Rocker Shaft hold downs were being used, when the Crane Roller Rockers "broke" at the fulcrum ?
Do you remember the torque being employed on the Shafts/Hold-downs ?

Apologies for the hijack, and Thanks for any imput.

Bob out.

Hi Kev  :icon_smile_cool:
Good question...
I'm not sure, the seller said he used them for a summer.  They look to be in good shape.  What should I look for?
You were running a Big roller cam though, right?  Hopefully the Engle Hydraulic set-up will be more forgiving  :shruggy:
I'll call Stacy.

I have some Hughes 1109 springs if you want to trade  ;)

Bob,
I don't mind at all.
I would like to know too.

Paul, have the rocker arms magnafluxed for cracks....if they check out good just run them. The engle cam won't require anywhere near Roller cam spring pressures. Fwiw, valve float is a killer on parts....even light spring pressures with bad harmonics and float will beat the rocker arms to death.  :yesnod:

Right On!

I'll have the rev limiter chip on my MSD set for 5800 rpm, just to be safe...

I don't really plan on beating the crap out of my engine anyway  :icon_smile_evil:
