In my 68 318 car can anyone tell me what kind of real axel it has and what gear ratio it is? Also, what gear ratio would you suggest for a good street gear but with more umph if you know what I mean? I still want to be able to drive it on the highway. This might be a retarded question but I am not a mechanic and still learning... Is it possible to make it posi without replacing the whole rear end?

Thanks

Bone

look at where the center of the diff is,if the bolts go in the front its an 8 3/4,real easy to swap pumpkins and get 3.55 and sure grip(no posi in a mopar)if the bolts go from the rear its a 8 1/4,which is a bigger job to swap, and given your experience will probably be better left off to a pro, either way a 3.55 would be my choice for rear gears

more than likely you have a 8 3/4  but who knows what peole do to them   http://www.moparts.com/Tech/Archive/axle/6.html   try this link and compare yours to this chart it will tell you which rear u have

i  would have to say that 3.55 3.73 gears would be ideal for highway and street i have 4.10 in my charger and im defintly better off in town than i would be on any highway  to high of rpms on the highway for my car
