What is the difference with a Charger 500, R/t and S/E in second generation chargers, and whats the differences besides the tail lights of the 68 with second generations?

2nd gen Charger 500 is two different things between '69 and '70. The '69 500 has a flush grill and rear window, made for Nascar. The '70 500 was just an upgrade package from the base Charger. R/Ts in all three years came only with 440s or 426 Hemis, beefier suspension upgrades, stripes and badges among a few other things. SE is an interior trim package available only in '69 and '70 (although many '68s had the same items but were not labeled as SE) and SE could be attached to a base model '69 and/or R/T and R/T in '70. Not sure if there is such a thing as a '70 500 SE or if a base model could be made into an SE.

As far as differences, the '68 markers and taillights are round while the '69 and '70 taillights are wide and the markers are rectangular, although '69 and '70 markers are different ('69s are smaller and I don't think they light up). There are dozens of other differences between years but most sheetmetal pieces between '68 and '69 are interchangeable. Oh, and the '68 model is the best-looking of the three. :yesnod:

SE package available on the 500 and R/T only in 70. 1968 and 1969 Chargers only came in the standard Charger (XP) level and the R/T (XS) performance package. 1970 saw the introduction of a third and lower trim level; the base Charger (XH). The 70 Charger 500 was pretty much the equivelent of the standard XP Charger in 68-69.

Have you checked out the 69 and 70 registry sites? They are full of pictures and information that will help you learn the differences between the years. Both Chris and Chris have done a great job on their respective sites. :2thumbs:
