Mopar Performance Parts Availability

I am wondering what with the 13,000 people being laid off at Chrysler and their discussions to possibly sell Chrysler in the next 2 or 3 years if the availability of parts will be impacted.  Everyone probably knows that all performance parts, that is, anything with a P in front of it went up 10% Jan 1, 2007.  I am starting to wonder if DCC might just decide to ditch the whole performance parts business.  They more or less did that already with any parts below 1980 since they "suggested" that dealers get rid of the old books.  They can still order stuff that is in the system but have no way of looking it up from exploded parts diagrams.  Now, if you give them a part number, they can check to see if it comes up in the system but they can't tell you if the part number that says "Not Available" has been superceded with a new part number and, thus, might be available.  I am starting to think that if you need anything or you think you will need something in the way of parts, you better get it nailed down or you may not be getting it at all.  Maybe I am being an alarmist but I see everything changing around me and usually not for the better and a development along these lines wouldn't surprise me at all.

I agree.  I am an optimist about most everything but I see the same scenario playing out.  Most companies today follow the drumbeat of looking after their "core business" and we don't fall into that.  On the plus side, I think anyone buying a new Dodge can expect more support and development.
