Is it necessary to replace the insulator under the intake manifold on the 400/440 ? Seems it was there originally to cool the fuel/air mixture.

Nacho-RT74

is not a temp insulation, really is as far I know SOUND insulation for tappets. I don't have it.

Temp insulation won't do anything there since the exhaust crossover pass throught intake already...

Sound deadener ??? Never heard that one before. Hydraulic lifters would cure any running noise I would think.

Just 6T9 CHGR

As per the factory diagram..... "Deadner & Silencer"
www.performancecargraphics.com repros these....

Most I've seen looks like a peice of crinkled/winkled tin foil. Sometimes painted sometimes not, Beleive the factory painted them with motor originaly for those of you going for 100 point resto. 9 out of 10 resto's I see dont even have this though. LEON.

Some of those 440's had "detuned" engines made possible by our lovely government. Correct me if I'm wrong, but I think 1969 or 1970 and later had the smog and sound modifications done to them....and then DOT eventually phased out all muscle cars in 74-75. We are the last of a proud clan of TRUE AMERICANS!! The true muscle car will never die. Today....we celebrate our Muscle Car Day!
