Well I emailed him asking if its originally out of a 69 500 and if XS29L9E107966 is the vin number of the car it came out of. If he says yes, its originally out of a 69 500 and if he says yes, thats the vin # of the car..then something is wrong with that whole picture.

I already sent that to Danny and Chris but it's not from a 500. The the VIN is obviously missing the "XX" (which is possible) but the more important part is that the sequence number is very early - too early for 500 production. Danny says the first 500 is 110610. Chris did not have it in the Registry yet.

Troy
Sarcasm detector, that's a real good invention.

i am pretty sure only a few  august built C500 were stamped  XS .  could be wrong though :-\ .  the AERO dudes on here would know more on this :yesnod: than i do

Yes, Danny says they could have XS through November 14th. That's why I said "which is possible" above. :D

some times  the digits weren't  all that clear , the  letter or number stamp might not of been vertical when it was struck ,a heaver indentation on one side to the other & some times they were double stamped also. then add  paint in the indentations  /rust it could be the seller made a error as  with parts of each letter not clear   G   E   B  could get mixed up

69_500

There were also several of the early blocks that have XX stamped over XS. I believe that AL's 500 is this way. I have seen quite a few that are that way actually. Early one's were mainly XS. Later ones are all XX. The middle is the ????? area. Some are XS, some are XX, some are XX over XS.

Just 6T9 CHGR

And this is based on your vast experience? Perhaps he made a mistake when reading the number?

No, he said those are the numbers.
Did you ask for his eyeglass prescription? A second opinion? How about a picture? Even if he read the numbers correctly the car isn't there in front of him so maybe he's mistaken on whether it was a 500 or not. Perhaps it came out of a 500 *after* someone transplanted it into the 500 from an R/T? Geez...

Troy

69_500

That could be the case as well. Say a 500 had blown its motor, very common. They put another 440 in it. Later sold the car, this guy buys it, and takes the motor out. And now wants to sell it.

Troy

For what it's worth... the original ad has been modified and it no longer says "500".
