Hi all,

For those of you that have replaced these on the upper door pads, what type of fastener did you use to put them on?  the original ones were held on by staples and the new pieces have holes for rivets/screws, etc.  Any and all comments appreciated!

just opened the holes and screw them directly to upper panel... at least 3rd gens.

OK heres a stupid question. What type of screw did you use?  Im terrible at choosing the right screw for the application.  With my luck mine will be rattling off and dancing around inside my door within the first 100 miles after installation!

I just did the ones on my 68 last weekend. There were no holes in the new ones that I got from RPM Restoration Parts. I aligned them as good as I could by hand and then clamped them in place with a vise-grip, then drilled a 1/8" hole through the weatherstrip and the door pad frame, then put a steel pop rivet in the hole, then moved the vise-grip a few inches and kept doing that until I had 10 pop rivets in it. They came out really nice. Probably no reason you couldn't use small sheet metal screws or machine screws with J-nuts behind them if you wanted to.

MadScientist

Fantastic!  I will give the rivets a look (never used em) and then the screws as well to see what I cant screw up (no pun intended)

just got mine from hardens and the chrome piece is a littler shorter than the original ones.  it is a little hard trying to place the chrome piece over the vinyl and chrome pieces.  i have brougham upper door panels.  is anybody else having a problem with this? does not look like direct replacements.  maybe i should have bought them from legendary auto.  any suggestions???

dunno, I still trying to known whats the best repro piece. I don't want to get a dissapointment AGAIN with some repro piece coming from USA. By the moments I preffer to buy the weatherstripes by meters down here and make by myself when I need, what in fact I'm needing... quarter outer ones are GETTING BROKE, and just 2 years since installed

when a company makes a repro - don't they at least buy or get the originals??  how can they make these repros and they are not even close to originals - do they have a brain in there head???  now i have to send it back and try to see if they have something that fits!  it just gets frustration trying to restor my car.   i bought package tray jute padding and that is 4 inches short.  don't they take measurements!

Aren't there shops able to sell that stuff my meters ( feet ) ?. Down here is pretty easy get those strips.

Doors outer ones are EXACT to originals, with chrome strip and all. They are becoming harder to find now but I think still available. The closer to quarter outer one is very similar( circular too ) but without the chromed strip. The hardest part is not the curved shape what does need just small cuts to give the shape... the hardest part is attach the clips.

Inners ones with circular felt were available couple of years back, but not anymore... easy to find similars but V shaped instead circular.

Cut the stripes are EXTREMELY easy, the sad parts is the cut section edges are visible, no good finish on end... maybe is posible to do it better than just cut, but never tried

i bought mine from Hardens car world and they do not fit Brougham upper door panels - the chrome piece is too short - i have to send them back - i called a company rpmparts and they said they are making repos for the SE chargers - i guess i will have to wait again.
