Can anyone recommend a good brand for Transmission rebuild kits for 727's? I'm talking about the bands, clutch disks, and other friction pieces. Is Raybestos a good one to go with? Thanks.

Makco is a good source of quality rebuild parts at reasonable prices.

Raybestos and Borg-Warner are both good quality. For performance rebuilds I prefer the red friction material on both clutches and bands.
Pardon me but my karma just ran over your dogma.

Thanks for the link John.

someday i'll try one, but couldn't beat RD's price for now and i know it will be done right.  My tranny is original and I don't want to screw it up so it will be going on the shelf when RD sends me mine. :METAL:

Speaking of that, how should I store my original rear chunk and tranny now that they are gonna be pulled to prevent deterioration/rust issues.  I was thinking a 5 gallon bucket with oil for the gear but don't know what to do when i pull the tranny?

Life isn't Father Knows Best anymore, it's a kick in the face on a saturday night with a steel toed grip kodiak work boot and a trip to the hospital all bloodied and bashed.....for reconstructive surgery. But, what doesn't kill us, makes us stronger, right?

mike drain your trans as dry as possible, make sure you seal off your front and rear input/output shaft areas, plug off your dipstick tube and the trans cooler line fittings.  store in a dry place, preferably off of the concrete and on the trans pan, if not, then on a pallet in a corner.  I would personally seal off the entire front bellhousing with something other than plastic (keeps in moisture) so that the front pump housing does not rust if moisture gets on it somehow.  could always seal up the front output shaft and then grease the front pump so that it wont rust.  I see a lot of transmissions whose front pump gets really rusty sitting in the elements. granted, its only cosmetic.

as far as your rear chunk goes, just like ya said.  it will always be the best way to go.

Looks like there's all sorts of add ons that those kits might need.   :scratchchin:
