You've gotta get a tape measure out and tell me how far it is from the bottom of the bumper to the highest point on the hood. It's got to be close to 4 1/2 feet, I swear. :o

No offense to your taste in sheetmetal but the look of that face is definitely one only its mother could love IMO.

dads_69

I worked for a Ford dealership until last November. I like the new look, but also the Dodge Mega Cab is pretty sweet also. Haven't picked out a new truck yet though for the family.

Nice looking truck. Im a big fan of the 87-97 style myself but i think all the Ford truck styles are nice.

Good luck with your EGR valve. Hopefully you have some oil absorbs or kitty litter to park it over when it starts puking coolant when you get home. :o

What are you talking about? ???

The new Ford's are notorious for puking coolant as the newer(6.0 and 6.4's) utilize an EGR valve to help them get by the newer emission standards. EGR's were not previously utilized on prior 7.3 liter Powerstrokes. However, in order to compete with the Turbo Cummins in horsepower, torque and mileage,(as well as the Duramax) Ford (Navistar)went to a smaller dispacement engine 6.0, and now 6.4 and turned the wick up on boost, and now twins(turbos). The 7.3 block was a much superior engine and had no problems, however emissions have driven them to a smaller engine and now with twin turbos in order to compete in horsepower, torque, and fuel consumption. Hope this answers your question.

I'll go a little against the grain here.  I don't care for ford anything myself but I think the truck looks good.  I myself, if I could afford it, would by a new dodge dually deisel, but that truck looks like, with all the equipment you have in there, it will do the job just fine.  I like the side profile and I know from my buddies dads ford that the interior is killer in those things.  The front end although a little larger looks pretty mean to me.  I think the only thing I would've considered is the location of the headlights and the running lights, i would have swapped them around but i imagine the engineers took this into consideration and put them where they thought they would best serve.(ie:the tall grille height)
Congratualtions on your new hauler and enjoy it. :2thumbs:

Life isn't Father Knows Best anymore, it's a kick in the face on a saturday night with a steel toed grip kodiak work boot and a trip to the hospital all bloodied and bashed.....for reconstructive surgery. But, what doesn't kill us, makes us stronger, right?

Troy

That's a really, really, expensive truck... but it should haul whatever it is you have. Love the twin turbos. It's funny but when I went to some Mopar only races last year about half of the tow vehicles in the pits were Ford F250s so I'd say not every Mopar guy hates Ford. I am considering trading my dually Ram for an older F250 (won't spend the cash on a new one). The Ram has not been good to me and I'm sick of it already.

It has a whole bunch of power. I sure that I  wouldnt want to work on it though. If you ever have the chance to look under the hood of one you would be surpreised. I need to take a pic an show ya.

Shawn. Just went for a ride in won w/a V10. We *test* drove it, like we stole it. My buddy is the PDI guy there, we drive everything carefully. Not a bad set up, the 6.4 twin turbo diesels though are already having issues told by FOMOCO. I like the truck after seeing up close even more so now. I just bought a '97 F-250 last night w/a 7.5 and mods. Gas hog, yeah, but also 4.10 gears for towing.

What problems have you had?
Long story. My fault mostly - choosing the wrong vehicle for the job. I originally had planned for a large enclosed trailer and I didn't believe that I would feel "safe" or comfortable dragging around 5-6 tons of expensive cars behind a 3/4 ton truck and a 1/2 ton was out of the question. I ended up with a 4x4 because diesels are incredibly rare around here unless they have 250kmi+ and I thought I could replace my smaller 4x4 for winter driving. After two years of looking and waiting I found one at a decent price and grabbed it. Right about that time the price of regular gas started to drop but the diesel stayed high. I had planned on using the Ram to replace two cars along with their maintenance, insurance, and payments (presumably to save money). Unfortunately, both of the other cars get better mileage, the insurance on the Ram is more than both cars combined, the maintenance on the Ram is about 3-4 times more than the cars it was to replace, AND the Ram is so HUGE it is impractical for use as a daily driver so I had to keep one of the cars. So now, I have traded in my "economy" car for a truck with a payment $140 more each month, triple the fuel costs, and double the insurance yet I still have half of my original payment, insurance, and maintenance due to keeping one of the cars. Licence plates for the Ram cost about $25 more per year as well. If that weren't enough... my truck sprung an oil leak (vacuum pump seal) and a fuel leak within weeks of each other. The vacuum pump seal is a $4 part but you can't reach it so labor is $350. The fuel sending unit is about $350 but it's not too hard to get to so labor is only $100. The thing steers like a drunken elephant so I started digging around to see what the problem may be. Well, big Rams like to eat front suspensions and steering components (as well as brakes but those are still ok at least). The steering problems can be fixed for about $700 but the front end rebuild could reach $2500 depending on what exactly is worn. I also can't seem to keep the tires balanced and now I need six 'E' load rated tires so figure on another $700-800 and an alignment. But wait, there's more! My truck is now getting just enough miles on it to start worrying about the lift pump and injector pump. Very soon I could be ordering another $2500 worth of parts if either pump fails. If the lift pump goes it often takes out the injector pump so it's twice the fun.

Ok, so none of this is insurmountable but I bought the truck to haul the cars around and because my Suburban just wasn't reliable any more. I sold the large enclosed trailer and bought my snazzy new open pit car hauler so I went from a 4500 pound empty trailer to a 1550 pound one. With a car on the new trailer it barely tips the scales at 5000 pounds so any 1/2 ton pickup should do the job. I really only tow once every couple of months any way so this Ram is a giant expense with very little utility. Ideally I thought I could drive it every day but the parking problems and high maintenance expenses have ruled that out so I still need a second "driver". I can't justify keeping it when I could have painted two Chargers already with the money I've thrown at the truck that's supposed to haul them around. Again, no one's fault but my own because I wasn't fully aware of the expense of owning one of these and my plans changed in the middle so a smaller truck would have worked all along.

I agree that a dually is not very user friendly for a everyday vehicle...especially in urban environments. I could have got a dually as well but decided on the 3/4 ton shortbox for practicality. I had heard of problems with the front ends on the Rams of that era but never owned one long enough to have it come up. The lift pumps are another common problem too. Then the automatic trannies have issues as well.(I prefer manuals anyway)

I know it might cost more but I try to keep my main tow vehicle for long hauls "relatively" new and lower mileage. I have worked my way up over the last 10 years from three 1/2 ton trucks, then a V10 quad cab to my current truck.  I have about 20,000 miles on the 2005 diesel and will probably trade when it gets around 50K on it. Where I live it seems trading low mileage diesels is much easier because the dealers have buyers for them. Getting the 1st one paid off and then finding a dealer willing to "deal" with you and keep the trade difference withing reason is the challenge.  :-\

Thanks for reminding me about the transmission...

I couldn't justify a new one with the amount of use it was going to get. For the amount of distance driving I do I could live with a 3/4 ton Ram or F250. I still won't buy a new one though - I have too many other things to spend money on. ;)
