Before I could exhale, this car was sold...for $30,000!  It was listed in a local want ad digest as being a numbers matching 69 real hemi charger complete needing full panel replacement.  I called the guy today and he let me know that he had been watching the car rot since he was 16 (he's now 38).  He also let me know that he almost ripped the car in half pulling it out of the ground.  It popped up online (did not even make the rag yet) and was gone within an hour.  I'm curious what it would take to do a frame off concourse resto financially and what it would sell for as a number 1 car when done?  If I had the extra $30k lying around and had been faster to the draw, I coulda made HOW MUCH MONEY??? :icon_smile_sad:

It really depends on the condition of what was there. There is no "frame" with uni body cars so if that is shot you have a lot of issues. Was it a complete car with the #'s matching drivetrain, what tranny, what color, what options? All this really makes a big difference.

30K could have been a deal or maybe just a set of Vin tags. Without more info it is hard to say. :shruggy:

Where'd you come up with $100k (for either the restoration or the final worth)? Just wondering since clones seem to be going in the $60-80k range and I believe 69hemi had his real one listed for something like $275k. Don't know what it sold for exactly but I'm thinking he didn't give a 65% discount. ;) Most of the high-end restoration companies are closer to the $150k range for a concourse car but obviously a smart shopper could probably do it for less than $60k.

Sarcasm detector, that's a real good invention.

Sorry, no pics...the car was sold too fast, I didn't even get a chance to see it.  I know it was extremely rough, just by what he said in the ad about all of the panels needing replaced, but it was complete.  I'd still bet whoever bought it could make some large money.  I just thought it was amazing that a car rotted into the ground would warrant such a price tag, much more sell for the asking price instantaneously.  I highly doubt this car would get a $100,000 resto treatment, but you never know.  Maybe the guy/gal knows of the site and we'll hear from him/her (or someone who knows of the deal) sooner or later

Crap... that's less than an hour from me.   I don't normally read the WAD .... sometimes I may browse the ads online tho.
I'll have to check around Speedo's shop to see if if Larry the plumber picked it up.   He's got a nose for finding this stuff...  of course it would just go into his collection of mopars rusting into the ground on his property near Rhinebeck with the others if he did.

Just my own personal estimates.   :yesnod:

I, personally, figure even $100K for a "top shelf" restoration is too much, but I was being generous.

As far as what I think the car is worth, well  just another personal estimate.  While I agree that the '69 Dodge Charger is the ultimate in automobiles, I don't think they're worth ridiculous amounts of money.  I also realize asking prices and actual selling prices are two different things.

There was a '69 Charger with a Hemi in the NE a few weeks back, a project car that my Father-in-Law and I were considering.  It was complete but needed a total resto.  The asking price was $65K USD and we agreed that even though we could do the majority of the work ourselves, in the end it wasn't worth it.  Again, just my/our personal estimates.

Back to the original question...  yes,  that's around top end for a rusty project.   $100K for a resto - well maybe if you don't wrench anything and only write checks.   Jet sold his F8 69 hemi / auto for upwards of $125K.   Being a 4 speed this could be worth a bit more to the right person.   But if somebody has to pull the sofa cushions up looking for change to find $30K to buy it,  they won't have the $ to restore it anyway.

But anyway IMHO... stock restos are fairly boring.    I don't want a trailer queen with drum brakes and points that doesn't start, run or stop very well.    A car like that is destined to collect dust in some rich dudes collection - yes there are exceptions to everything   :eyes:

Thats a pretty good flip!

I would love to find a Daytona or Superbird clone for under 30k, infact if I could find a decent clone for 25k I would have it in my garage.  So in my opinion a real # s matching Hemi car rusty or not for 30k is better than a 401K,  and not a terrible deal.

The Aquamax...yes, this bike spent 2 nights underwater one weekend. (Not my doing), but it gained the name, and has since become pseudo-famous. :)

the fact that it "sold in less than an hour"should tell you it was worth more than 30k.
