Well now we know there will be money involved with the exhumation.  Not that there was ever any doubt.
That's for sure.
Also, they aren't going to give the car to the winning person until November...I'm guessing so they can milk it a bit longer? ???

The Aquamax...yes, this bike spent 2 nights underwater one weekend. (Not my doing), but it gained the name, and has since become pseudo-famous. :)

Looks like American Hot Rod and Boyd Coddington are going to be on hand to "inspect the car after its removal from a vault " http://www.tulsaworld.com/news/article.aspx?articleID=070427_1_A10_BIELW42637 This thing is getting bigger by the day.

nooooooooooooooooo!!! don't let cobbelington touch it!! almost as bad as Foose getting it!!!

Ghoste

I'm sure he's just name candy to help sell whatever the plans are.  Movie rights, t-shirts, dvds, live broadcast feeds, whatever.  He'll be the automotive voice of expertise to give interesting banter between whatever other stupid crap American Hot Rod plan to air.

The70RT

I wonder where the beer was placed? Steel cans.......wouldn't you think they would have rusted and leaked by now? That would be a bitch if a 2 dollar case of rot gut rots the car ???

I'm going with excellent condition.  People back then did not screw around, the vault was over engineered, and the gas and oil were placed outside the car in the video.  As for the beer, I prefer Blatz  :icon_smile_big:.

"Rust and corrosion protection was provided by sheets of volatile rust inhibitors. These were built by Orchard and used to cover the engine and interior areas of the car. Additional sheets of the material were placed on the car top and under the chassis.

A huge KCL-made plastic bag was positioned over the car with the bottom edges heat sealed to the base sheet, leaving a 4-inch slot opening. The air in the bag was then vacuumed out through the remaining 4-inch slot, producing a hermetically-sealed container. Finally, the car was lowered into an underground concrete vault and sealed."

Hope there is some way of seeing it on the internet or news or something.  Perhaps Skued can take a video and do the U-Tube thing for us!!

Its been well documented that the Tulsa people contacted the atomic energy commission to consult on this project...The time capsule was designed and indented to withstand just about everything - - including a nuclear attack and even decimation from what I understand. In fact,  some people considered that a very likely possibility   ....given the times (that a nuclear attack was almost a certainty).

Why get all these folks in the star light involved..cant something just be for the regular working folks like it was in the day  :rotz:
Earth. Even the word sounded strange to me now... unfamiliar. How long had I been gone? How long had I been back? Did it matter? I tried to find the rhythm of the world where I used to live. I followed the current. I was silent, attentive, I made a conscious effort to smile, nod, stand, and perform the millions of gestures that constitute life on earth. I studied these gestures until they became reflexes again. But I was haunted by the idea that I remembered her wrong -Solaris

I'm planning on going to the removal at noon, but I'm not sure how well the viewing will be.  Then the "official" unveiling and car show that night.  I'll have lots of pictures for sure and I'll see what I can do about a video.   :2thumbs:

I bought my tickets, but still confused. Are they going to unearth the entire vault and bring it to the convention center and then open it, or just remove the car and bring it to the convention center?
If it ain't broke, fix it 'till it is.

I understood it that they will remove the car from the vault at 6th and Denver at noon Friday.  Then transport it to the convention center that afternoon with a parade.  The unveiling at the convention center is where they will remove the items in the car and prepare it for viewing.  I think the invitational and open car show also start Friday night.

GreenMachine- we should (or any other board member) meet up that evening for :icon_smile_big:
