Hi all,

I have a 1979 Titan motor home with what is perhaps the cleanest quietest running 440 I have ever seen. I am considering using it for my 69 Charger. I also have a 73 steel crank 440 that needs a complete rebuild. Using the motorhome engine would greatly reduce the amount of time needed to actually get my car on the road. and I could still keep the other engine for later. Anybody know anything about this type of motorhome engine? horsepower? Compression? Potential for building up? I don't want to gut this motorhome unless it is worth it. I paid $1,800 for the motorhome. I was thinking I could set it up minus it's motor like a "trailer" to stay in when I visit my property since everything else works on it. (Fridge, furnace, AC. electric, plumbing) and so on.....What would you guys do?

I got a hold of a motor home with a 440, and that thing would power brake the duely's. I loved it. I threw it in my truck and played around with it for a little bit then I sold it. I really wish I had it back. I don't see how you would be hurting yourself. The heads and cam specs are differant, but easily changed when you get around to it.  :icon_smile_big:

I thought '78 was the last year for the 440, and '72 was the last year for the steel crank. Anyway, I would rebuild  the '73 unless I was flat broke. That way you can build it how you want, and with an engine still in the motor home you can move it around easier.
If it ain't broke, fix it 'till it is.

I wasn't really planning on moving the motor home around. I was gonna use it for a base camp while I have a new home built or brought in at my property, so the motorhome is probably at it's final stop on the road of life. I don't have thousands to put into building a motor right now. I just thought it would be a lot easier to drop the engine from the motorhome into my Charger and actually get it going instead of having to wait another year to get a drivetrain in it.

the 79 would be a low compression & most likely a cast crank engine but it will bolt in as long as you use a balanced converter with the cast crank
