My 72 Charger does not have electronic ignition for some reason. I thought all 72 Chargers have this.  Anyway, can I plug this new wiring harness in and expect it to work (providing I use the right distributer)
Thanks!

I am not sure about the 74 to 72 swap but not all 72s had electronic ignition.  In 73 it became standard equipment.  Its still not a flawless design though, and if you are building the car from scratch and not worried about a stock appearance I would an recommend an aftermarket system such as MSD.

Mopar ignition modules work GREAT you don't really need a MSD or similar modules, but is your call about it depending of use you are thinking.

Now since I answered on your PM, I'll make public:

Throught the 71/74 years is not only the extra equippment what you have to consider to make work different harness on different cars. It is also some wires crossed between engine and headlights harness and turned around on same harnesses

For example, 71/72 have windshield washer reservor on passenger side and 73/74 on driver side, so lates models have this brown wire on headlight harness and earliers on engine harness.

These crossed wires also make other wires are crossed to fill diferent bulkhead cavities, like starter yellow wire and brake warning wire to prop valve sensor.

Beside this, wires were also turned around on same harnesses.

Now about your worry to use electronic ignition module. Mopar ( and any brand ) provides extra wires, so would it be same or REALLY an easier job just add this provided harness on your actually harness, in that way you won't need to match any harness with your bulkhead conector wires, because you are using your own wires. Normally add this provided harnesses are REALLY a piece of cake.

Anyway, yes, you can make work a 74 harness on your 72 IF YOU WANT and are able to do all the modifications.

Funny is that sometime ago I did need a 74 engine harness, but ended making my own harness. Still wish to have an Original one, but is not a priority anymore

Reset button allows to start the engine without fasten your seatbelts ( mandatory on USA cars on 74 and 75 ) for some time in case of emergency like interlock system fail, or if you need to start the engine for a while you are on engine bay making some mechanic job
