Big Lebowski

$65,000 is still not bad for a car he probably paid $1,500 for 20 years ago. :icon_smile_big:
"Let me explain something to you, um i am not Mr. Lebowski, you're Mr. Lebowski. I'm the dude, so that's what you call me. That or his dudeness, or duder, or you know, el duderino if you're not into the whole brevity thing."

[Are you thinking that the top banana color is a negative or a positive?   It's always been my opinion that any of the high impact colors would make the car more valuable.  Mike Joy (I think) even commented on how beautiful (maybe not the exact wording) the yellow and the black color combo was.   I think it would have done MUCH better on Friday or Saturday.

IMO, probably a negative.  I realize it's a high impact color, and that probably helped it over, say, beige or pea soup green, but I think it would have sold higher if it was black or blue or a different hi-impact color.  Not trying to stir anything up, just saying yellow isn't my thing.  But still, like The Dude said, $65,000 is still not bad.

They had a blooper on lot #120, a mint 1963 Lincoln.  As it was leaving the arena, one of the exit curtain rods fell down and landed on top of the hood.  I don't know if it did any damage, but it sure looked like it could have.......

I know..I laughed my balls off!

Finally the bottom is beginning to fall out. :yesnod:

I wouldn't say that when I see a 70 RR 383 auto car go for somewhere north of 60K.......Only the clones seem to be taking a hit. That is a good thing.

Some very nice looking cars went across the block last night.  I fell in love with the '70 Cougar Eliminator.

I also found myself liking a few other cars.  Like these two station wagons for example.

I'd like to have a car similar to one of these for weekend getaways to the beach with the family.

As a matter of fact, I'd let my Wife drive one of these with the children and all the gear and I'd lead the way in my Charger.  Quality family time!   :icon_smile_tongue:

bull

I don't think the bottom will ever fall out but there may be a correction in the works. Also, some of the guys who bought these cars a few years back still have them and maybe aren't buying anything now. There could be a resurgence at any time just like there could be a devaluation too but I don't think there's going to be any bottom falling out of anything when it comes to muscle car values.

73chgrSE

I want to go to Scotsdale just to see it all in person. :yesnod: :o If you notice, there were alot of great buys the first few days but I think big money is coming out this weekend.

Ghoste

What are their featured car this year incidentally?  The big guns they are promoting for Saturday afternoon.

jwilk01

I am not sure what the feature would be but my brother is out there with a friend that is selling his Hemi Cuda it's blue and the owner is Barry Boiles.  So if you see it my brother is not far away, he restored most of the car.  I know they are expecting it to go for over a million bucks but we will see.

RM has a Hemi Cuda across town this week for their season opener too.  Some were expecting it to hit 2 million so maybe they are both gonna be 1.5?  Just splitting the difference.  :P

69_500

I'm guessing your speaking of HEMI Cuda convertibles. Because a hard top won't reach anywhere near $2Million I don't think. If it does, it is just plain stupidity.

I watch the show, and actually enjoy parts of it. Enjoy watching people act stupid. Its like a train wreck like Gene said. Hard to look away from. I hope the prices come back to reality, and that the brokers take their money and start investing it in something other than Mopars. So that real fans can get ahold of the cars again.

I'm not sure what all they have planned, but a few that caught my attention are:

the "last 67" Corvette Stingray (as sick as I am of stingrays  :eyes:)

a monster of a custom 71 Hemi Cuda (800+HP)

70 Superbird and 69 Daytona that are going up as a pair

Is it just me or does it seem like they cut to commercial right before the high dollar mopars hit the block?  I also noticed that Ford is a big sponsor of the auction so I am guessing that it isn't just a coincidence.

73chgrSE

I didn't see any of the three 3rd gens air. One day they started airing it 1 number too late. That pissed me off.

Now you don't think they'd do that, do you?  ;)

I think the only reason they are showing the mopars now is because there are so many hitting the block in a short period of time.

Kind of eratic bidding in that this car brought half that and is one of the best restored examples out there.  :shruggy:

A FC7 v code '70 RR hardtop outbid a black vert '70 V code RR with the black one being more factory correct.

All of the auctions are a lot of smoke and mirrors.  It doesn't even really matter what the items are being auctioned.  The entire point is to excite buyers and get them bidding against one another.

Yeah. My father and my grandfather both were professional auctioneers. I remember way back as my grandfather taught my father, his main lesson was "The job of the auctioneer is to coax as much money out of the bidders as possible. They should walk away feeling they bid too much or you didn't do the job well." The auctioneer would get a percentage of the final sale price, so it was in his best interest to get as much money as possible. The fast talking of the traditional auctioneer is used as a tool to build excitement and give bidders the feeling if they hesitate for a second they could lose the opportunity and regret not going that little extra. It also helps if you can get them to the point where they feel they are at war with an opposing bidder. Often people will bid way above and beyond their original top price just to "win" the game they are playing against an opponent.

Back to BJ: How many early 70's E body Hemi cars are at this deal? It seemed like quite a few. How do you feel like you got something special when there are so many available in the same place?

70charger_boy

You know what I find so hard to believe?  They had a hemi cuda come off the block claiming to have 16,000 miles.  If a car only had 16,000 miles why would you do a full off restoration?
