i wonder how the devastation is impeding the rescue and medical trucks from getting into downtown (i.e. trash, wreckage, downed trees, power lines, etc.)?   could that be a cause to why the rescue and welfare of the NO citizens is being hampered?

I just heard this morning in the news that the National Guard is shooting to kill. The thugs raping and bullying people in the Astro Dome are getting theirs now.

I never understood why the military did not drop food and water via air drops like they did in Iraq for the civilians and in the sunami disaster?? OK you say you can't get into the City due to the flood. How about by air?? Drop food, water and possibly tents.

Think about it for a second. You have water that is highly poisonous, you cannot just drop food into it. Also if you dropped a crate of food on that bridge by the Superdome what would happen? You would have a very large riot on your hands in a matter of seconds.

Its sad that the few police, firepersonell, and military that are there are now being told to suspend search and rescue missions to try to restore order. These people that are looting, rioting, and shooting are costing innocent people their lives...

So are they criminals because they're poor or poor because they're criminals? People may not be able to improve their past but in the US you can damn-well improve your future if you really want to. There's no excuse for what the hooligans are doing down there. None whatsoever. If more law-abiding citizens would exercise their 2nd amendment right I can guarantee there would be fewer innocent people getting hurt down there.

You don't see gangs rolling around in the rich neighborhoods do you? Of course not......................poverty and crime go hand in hand. I'm not making excuses for any of it..............who would? The ratio of hooigans to 'good' poor people is alot higher than middle/rich income people............and when thats all thats left it's not good...........as demostrated.

I'm sure there are a great many that want to improve their social status...........but lets be realistic, there's ALWAYS going to be poor people in any major city, no matter how sucessful they want to be in life.

They could have had choppers flying supplies in there on the second day. Doesn't the military have self contained hospitals that could be air lifted into different places as soon as the choppers could fly??

The news footage from there is becoming difficult to watch. Thankfully it seems that 99% of the people have now been evacuated. I know there was a lot of people who did not have anyway to leave the city. But I wonder how much quicker the evacuation would have been if the people who could have left, but didn't, had left when ordered.
How many criminals do you suppose decided to stay behind, figuring they would have easy pickings once the city was empty, only to be rescued and brought to the Superdome?

All I'm saying is that there are poor people with enough morals to avoid crime and work hard for the little they have. I know lots of poor people, most of them at the poverty level, and they don't commit criminal acts just because they're poor. The only time poverty goes hand in hand with crime is when the poor criminals have lousy morals.
