I have a 69 charger w/ drums all around. We put new rear shoes, lines, and hardware. The fronts were good. We bled the system and the breaks are working like crap. There appears to be alot of room for the pedal to move before you start getting into the breaks. But, then you still have to push harder to get any brakes(not real good). Where might I start? Thx in advance for any help...Dan

what type of drum brake set up do you have          self adjusting ?  or manual  adjust ?      if manual they might be incorrectly adjusted

Power brakes or manual brakes?
Dumb question maybe but If its power brakes, is the engine running when you're trying this?

I think there self ajust. There power, and no it was not running.

See what happens when the car is running so the booster can get vacuum to it.

I'll second what Tyler said.
Your power brakes use vacuum from the engine when it is running.  If the engine isn't running, you're brakes won't seem right.
