Why not just call it a Torus? What is wrong with these companies? Don't they understand that you can't polish a turd. 4 door cars are turds and always will be.

The Aquamax...yes, this bike spent 2 nights underwater one weekend. (Not my doing), but it gained the name, and has since become pseudo-famous. :)

I'm hoping for a 4-door Camaro. Then the shared misery will be complete.

Seems like an incredibly stupid and slack marketing move to me. Can't come up with a new name for them with a new campaign behind them? ...instead just fall back on the Mustang "name"!??! WTF. Might as well make a new truck and say "hey the Mustang name is popular, let's call that a Mustang too". Nuts.

Challenger340

Yep, I knew it !

Proof positive that the brain damage necessary, as an explanation for the "new" charger design, is in fact "viral" and is airborne.

Somebody from Mopar must have "sneezed" upwind of the Ferd design plant, infecting them too with the resultant "brain virus"

Other possible explanations

1.) Mopar fired the engineer responsible for the "new" Charger design, and Ferd quickly snapped him up.

2.) "Babies dropping on their heads" at birth, was more common in the seventies than we thought previously. (oopsy daisies)

3.) It's a contest, he who can design the most abhorrant semblance of an automobile, to denigrate a "one proud" nameplate WINS !

Anybody else got some explanations ?
Only wimps wear Bowties !

As I said about the four door Charger, the car makes or breaks the name, not the other way around.
"This was the dedication of the altar, in the day when it was anointed, by the princes of Israel: twelve chargers of silver, twelve silver bowls, twelve spoons of gold..." -- Numbers 7:84 KJV

And the name is now broken.

It's the only car line they have that's selling so there you go.  Marketing says most people recognize that nameplate so therefore, logic dictates that the entire output should be called Mustang.
Why hire stylists and allow them to actually create something and take a chance by following it up with reliable engineering.  Next thing you know, the public will want it to be fairly priced and never mind honoring the damn warranty, they'll expect to never have to bring it back to the dealer in the first place.

Ford is denying the story:

XS

"You have to appreciate that we treat the Mustang as one of our crown jewels," said Ford marketing spokesman Jim Cain, "and you don't wear them to every party."

Now, just for fun, let's pretend it's 2004 and we'll replace the words "Mustang," "Ford" and "Jim Cain" with "Charger," "DCX" and "Jason Vines." Wouldn't we all be much happier and content?

Ghoste

The Charger was no doubt the first example that came up when the story began breaking around Ford offices.

The 500 is close enough to the Mustang to skip making a 4 door version of it, at least the front end looks close to me.
