Gee....why bother even posting then? :shruggy:  I'm sure you can give up the basic knowledge that most people know about already.  Lostsheep....I think there are a few websites you can check out of dynotesting the 383...what works  and what doesn't.  I do know....the faster you want to go...the more money you will spend.  Do a search in this forum  and you may be able to come up with something.

What are you looking for in terms of performance ? Some things need to be clarified before making any recommendations :

stall speed ?
Gearing ?
tire diameter ?
power brakes ?
Exhaust system ; headers or manifolds ?
pump gas ?

Well, for gearing I was looking at 3.55s or 3.91.  I want something not to bad for either highway or around town.  It will have power brakes and I will be doing a disc conversion. It will definitely have headers, I was thinking max 2.5 and put in an x pipe.  It will definitely run on pump gas. For the rest I don't really know.  I'm just beginning and wanted to compile a list of the parts I'll need so that I can start picking them up 1 by 1.

The 400+hp mark should be pretty easy to attain with a few good parts. You'll want 9.5:1 compression....Speedpro makes a replacement piston for the application. 452 heads with a nice valve job and maybe a bowl blend if you feel like playing around with the die grinder. The MP porting templates work fine for this type of work. A vintage edelbrock DP4B intake manifold....check e-bay, they usually go for ~$100.00 or so. For the cam, a Comp xe275hl will get the job done and make enough vacuum to run your power brake booster. Electronic ignition with a curved distributor along with the headers and 2.5in exhaust will be perfect. For the torque converter ; PTC makes a nice street 11in model that will stall ~2500 rpm which is ideal with that cam and those rear end gears. I would go with the 3.91's and a 28in tall tire.
